Description

Roger Greenberg (Stiller) is single, fortyish and deliberately doing nothing. In search of a place to restart his life, he agrees to housesit for his brother in LA and tries to reconnect with his former bandmate (Rhys Ifans) and successful ex-girlfriend (Jennifer Jason Leigh). But old friends aren't necessarily still best friends, and Greenberg soon finds himself forging a connection with his brother's personal assistant, Florence (Greta Gerwig). Despite his best attempts not to be drawn in, Greenberg comes to realize that he may at last have found a reason to be happy. Critics rave, “Greenberg has a soul, a heart and a sense of humor.” (Stephanie Zacharek, Salon.com)

Greta Gerwig is mesmerizing and utterly believable as the gorgeous young thing who's smitten with Stiller. Sadly, the notion that anyone would care a lick about Ben's character, one of the most annoying in film history, is too great a stretch. I spent the entire two hours wanting to slap some sense into him.

If I could give it a negative rating I would. This is not a comedy. It is depressing. The characters are annoying. The movie is slow. It is just horrible. I forced myself to watch it until the end convinced that it had to get better, it never did!! Save your money.

if you are in need of a movie to slow your thoughts to a trickling stream of drivel, then rent this.

Sorry, but whatever redeeming acting talent remains in ben stiller was not evident here. The movie shows how lousy HD is for actors when we can actually see them. As my wife said, "if we hadn't paid for it we would have left after the first 20 Minutes.

Now I like slice of life movies. No. I LOVE them. But this movies plot was very slow and the dialuoge was not that great. I'm not sure what the director was trying to say with this movie. But it had some good shooting and music.
  • Stiller's. Worst. Ever.

Notice how everybody giving this five stars is likely some uppity pretentious artsy movie type, not regular movie-liking people. DON'T LET THEIR BAUMBACH-FELATING FOOL YOU. This movie was uncomfortable, awkward, jaunty and pointless. Stiller's character is so terribly unlikable and it's simply unbelievable that the female lead would find him in any way appealing (especially because, damn, he got old). And besides all that, holy crap was it boring. Don't waste your time or your money. This movie is just plain bad.

Greenberg was weird. Strange sex scenes which were very awkward even watching with my fiance. If you enjoy comedies, which I do, do not rent/buy this movie. Its unfortunate that Ben Stiller is dumbing down to movies like this.

Loved the simplicity of the story and the portrail of character relationships, complicated as they are.
