Description

Internationally famous oceanographer Steve Zissou (Bill Murray) and his crew -- Team Zissou -- set sail on an expedition to hunt down the mysterious, elusive, possibly nonexistent Jaguar Shark that killed Zissou's partner during the documentary filming of their latest adventure. They are joined on their voyage by a young airline co-pilot, who may or may not be Zissou's son (Owen Wilson), a beautiful journalist (Cate Blanchett) assigned to write a profile of Zissou, and his estranged wife and co-producer, Eleanor (Anjelica Huston). They face overwhelming complications including pirates, kidnapping, and bankruptcy. Oscar(R)-nominated writer-director Wes Anderson (2001 Best Original Screenplay, The Royal Tenenbaums) has assembled an all-star cast that also includes Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum, Michael Gambon, Noah Taylor, and Bud Cort in this wildly original adventure-comedy.

But we all knew that Cousteau would defeat the Kraken. An excellent retelling of JC’s most epic battle.

As the reviews suggest, this is a polarizing film. Despite revisiting it every few years and expecting to love it less, it remains my favorite Wes Anderson movie and Bill Murray performance. Brilliant script, perfect soundtrack.
  • What the heck was that? A movie?

I have no idea how this guaranteed bomb was ever made. It is pointless. How did anyone pitch this thing? Hey Bill – why doncha head back to Walker Brothers and snort some syrup? Whatever comes out of your nose after that, it would certainly be better than this. This film can be best described by a two-word statement by Murray at 1:28:30.

There is a lot going on in this movie. The average viewer will probably be annoyed or confused. It’s brilliant and that’s what matters to me and Wes Anderson. If you don’t like it then it wasn’t for you. Bye!

I grew up watching The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau (USWOJC)and this is why I love this film. It is an homage to JYC not a parody. I suggest you watch an episode of USWOJC first and then this film. You’ll enjoy it much more.
  • Unbelievably terrible

I can’t believe these actors and actresses stuck through the filming of this abomination. This is almost as bad as The Lobster. I’m not going to waste any more words on it.

Not bad. Bill Murray is amazing as always. Loved the cast. Cate Blanchet is playing the same role - i.e Katherine Hepburn - as she played in The Aviator.
