Description

Terrifying underwater action-thriller! Superstars Dustin Hoffman, Sharon Stone and Samuel L. Jackson star in this thrilling adaptation of the Michael Crichton ("Jurassic Park," "Disclosure") bestseller as a group of scientists recruited by the Navy to conduct a secret underwater mission to explore an alien spaceship and discover it's an American ship returned through time from the future and entombed by an alien sphere. Their mission turns terrifying when they unknowingly develop the power to manifest their worst fears. Directed by Oscar-winner Barry Levinson. Co-starring Grammy-winner Queen Latifah ("Living Single") and Liev Schreiber ("Scream").

Depressing Hollywood hand wringing about how “unready” and unworthy people are. Steal the concept of the Krell subconscious manifestation tech, make it portable in a gold balloon and create fake dramatic tension by creating a cast of flawed characters to grump at each other and you have this mess. Two hours I’ll never get back.

Considering the talent in front of and behind the camera (not to mention the source material is by the great Michael Crichton) this should have been an instant classic. But it’s a bit of a mess with an ending that is frankly pretty dumb and quite a bit of a cop out. Only Liev Schrieber shines. Everyone else looks bored.

What a mind-bender. You begin to doubt the things you see and characters who you thought were solid. Kept me guessing till the end.

An astoundingly idiotic movie. Literally. The characters are irritating fools mumbling dialog written by an agitated ouija board. Their actions are senseless, the consequences dull, and after 15 minutes I continued watching only in hope of seeing such remarkably annoying people die. What little plot there is lumbers to its predictable conclusion like a drunken cow stumbling down stairs. Good actors phone in the worst performances of their lives, that being more than the script deserves.
  • Boring As Dustin Hoffman

True to form, Dustin Hoffman bores the patooties out of viewers. His trademark, “M.m.m.Mrs. R.r.Robinson stutter remains intact and so serves to remind the viewer that he or she has been transported back to the late 1960s.

The book sucked, and the movie sucked. Outta here!
  • A movie that should be relegated to the “also ran” column

Too many missed opportunities. An intriguing notion, but this film misses the boat.

this is one of those for the sci-fi / horror - crossovers …. overall, not bad. don't listen to the rotten tomatoes folks. this IS-NOT … and I say again, THIS IS NOT …. an 'are we alone' genre movie. according to the story line, they (we) made a ship to explore black holes, and other parts of space, it survived, and came back ….in the past. wild very cool.

Horribly dull without any thrill. Save your money and your time.
