Description

Nothing was going to stop Roy Hobbs from fulfilling his boyhood dream of baseball superstardom. Robert Redford stars in this inspiring fable that begins when 14-year-old Hobbs (Redford) fashions a powerful bat from a fallen oak tree. He soon impresses major league scouts with his ability, fixing his extraordinary talent in the mind of sportswriter Max Mercy (Robert Duvall), who eventually becomes instrumental in Hobb's career. But a meeting with a mysterious woman shatters his dream. Years pass and an older Hobbs reappears as a rookie from The New York Knights. Overcoming physical pain and defying those who have a stake in seeing the Knights lose, Hobbs, with his boyhood bat, has his chance to lead the Knights to the pennant and to finally fulfill his dream.

  • WARNING: DIRECTORS CUT IS NO GOOD

This is NOT the original theatrical release of the film that you know and love. This is the director’s cut. It adds 20 minutes of unnecessary footage throughout the movie. Some of which foreshadows and ruins some of the original release’s most dramatic moments. At its core it’s still the best baseball movie ever made; just not what I thought I was buying, since there is no mention of it being the directors cut in iTunes description.
  • This was Charlie Brown's favorite movie

In the Peanuts comic strip, Charlie Brown's all time favorite movie is The Natural. The film got referenced quite a few times in the years following its release. In one series of strips there's a character claiming to be Roy Hobbs' grandkid. Then ol' Chuck points out that Hobbs is a character from a movie, LOL A very good film.

Why did they butcher the original movie? I wanted the theatrical release - not this garbage.

I very much hate this version. Just Don't buy. I hated it so much I deleted it. I loved the original version, just hate this one. I typically like extended versions, not with this one.

The theatrical release is perhaps my favorite film. But as others have noted this is NOT the theatrical release but rather a bizarre cut with additional and entirely useless scenes peppered in. Apple is aware of the error but has so far ignored it. They at least issued me a refund, but I'd suggest saving yourself the trouble and holding out for the correct version.

You don't have to love baseball to enjoy this movie

I wish there was a little warning that this was not the original version of the film before I bought it! Instead of the original that I've seen a hundred times, I now own a directors cut with flashbacks, added scenes, re-cut sequences that change the feel of the movie that I love. Very disappointed.
  • What the ----? Where’s the original?

Hey how about a warning next time? I thought I bought the original movie, but it turns out this is some sort of director’s cut or special edition. Can you guys at least put that on the title somewhere? I feel like I got ripped off. I want my money back.

There is NO warning that this isn’t the original. This Directors recut literally ruins the movie. Ruins it because if you have seen the original then you have memories that can’t and shouldn’t be replaced. Don’t believe me? Buy and be on my side. Very disappointed, and even more disappointed that Apple wouldn’t take care of a loyal customer. You get better results from retail stores with an actual human in your face to recognize that what has happened is wrong.
  • A Classic Made Even Better

Do not hesitate in either renting or purchasing this movie. I waited too long before I finally gave in and made the purchase. Now, I absolutely love the additions made to the beginning of this classic movie. I love the way the "director's cut" version shows the parallels of Roy's two train trips to the majors. (One trip as a youth and the second as an adult.) It is the two trips and their outcomes that make this movie possibility the greatest baseball story ever brought to the big screen.
