Description

In Nancy Meyers' The Holiday, a romantic comedy from the director of Something's Gotta Give and What Women Want, two women trade homes only to find that a change of address can change their lives. Iris (Winslet) is in love with a man who is about to marry another woman. Across the globe, Amanda (Diaz), realizes the man she lives with has been unfaithful. Two women who have never met and live 6000 miles apart, find themselves in the exact same place. They meet online at a home exchange website and impulsively switch homes for the holiday. Iris moves into Amanda's L.A. house in sunny California as Amanda arrives in the snow covered English countryside. Shortly after arriving at their destinations, both women find the last thing either wants or expects: a new romance. Amanda is charmed by Iris' handsome brother Graham (Law) and Iris, with inspiration provided by legendary screenwriter Arthur (Wallach), mends her heart when she meets film composer Miles (Black).

As a guy I didn’t like it years ago…cheesy…now I gave it another shot and found it much better than I remembered it. It’s a fantasy but it’s almost perfect in that. Both female leads are great and both male leads were not as good but still ok. Jude was a little more believable than Jack black but not by much. So I still have a problem with their acting in this…wrong casting in my opinion. Both males kept pulling me out of the film. I really liked Kate Winslet this time around she really made this movie come to life! Plus I never really thought of her as sexy attractive but in this she seemed to become more and more attractive…so that’s kinda what love is all about…falling for someone who you didn’t expect to fall for…so I kinda fell for her and her performance! Cameron Diaz is a knock out and great in anything…she always has the dorky but pretty thing going for her…and yeah somehow the back and forth split between England and USA scenes worked well and having lived in La it was funny to see the screenwriting hero old guy because almost everyone who’s lived in La knows someone like him…a star in his own right that’s all but forgotten but made his mark…with that…this movie definitely made its mark. Tiny bit bad acting but otherwise 5 stars.

A great movie to watch all year round. Even better around the holidays. Cast is marvelous. Chemistry is even better. Story is original and heartwarming. Great soundtrack/score. One of our family’s favorite movies. Kudos to everyone involved.

It is a simple story to follow. It is fun and makes you feel good about moving watching. Plus the main actors are always fun to watch. I suggest you watch the movie to make your own judgement and do not listen to critics.

Great movie but overpriced on ITunes. I prefer to purchase from ITunes but I can get a hard disc for $8 and other digital competitors are holiday pricing at $9.99.

I wish the film was just about Kate and Jack's charecters, I'm not a fan of Cameron but the film was still good!!! Prepare for a corny romantic christmas movie, but it has a lot of heart and will make you laugh and cry!! Not the greatest movie, but a fairly decent one!

Everything about this film is marvelous. The message is great, the actors are massively talented, the cinematography is entertaining. Then there is the fact, it was partially filmed in England which makes me smile. Such a beautiful country.
