Description

Inspired by the incredible true story of composer Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges. The illegitimate son of an African slave and a French plantation owner, Bologne (Kelvin Harrison Jr. in a tour de force performance) rises to improbable heights in French society as a celebrated violinist-composer and fencer, complete with an ill-fated love affair, and a falling out with Marie Antoinette (Lucy Boynton) and her court. Also starring Samara Weaving, Ronkẹ Adékoluẹjo, Marton Csokas, Alex Fitzalan and Minnie Driver, Searchlight Pictures’ “Chevalier” was produced by Ed Guiney, Andrew Lowe and Dianne McGunigle, written by Stefani Robinson, and directed by Stephen Williams.

It was a good film. It’s funny how people with no culture complain about the film as if Joseph is a fictional character. Then act as if period films are 100 percent correct, the hypocrisy.
  • Fake historical narrative

Yeah, if you’re into fake historical narratives then this is for you. I hate with a passion when Hollywood tries to be “inclusive” because they always fail so miserably. If it’s in a time period or past culture where it’s predominantly one race, so be it!! Historical accuracy feels so much more authentic than this pretend modern narrative of what history should’ve been according to today’s woke ideology.

I’m tired of historical movies being unrealistic and being modernized. It’s a period piece it should feel like one!

I've seen countless racist reviews and tweets concerning this movie online, so I thought I'd check it out, and I’m happy I did. I was fortunate enough to have learned of Joseph Bologne during my middle school years in music theory class, but our education didn't cover as much as this movie did. I don't want to give any spoilers, but if you’re a fan of Bridgerton or Queen Charlotte, you'd really enjoy this.
  • Brilliant Black Man

This story is about another black man who overcame. So if you don’t understand the racism endured, you probably wont like this movie. Historically I was never taught about this man. What an inspiration, simply brilliant!
