Description

Matthew Perry ("Friends," "Mr. Sunshine") stars as Ryan King, a recent widower and sports talk radio host ready to get back to work after the loss of his wife. Ryan's alpha-male boss, Stephen (John Cho, "Star Trek," "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle"), has a different plan in store for Ryan, making him attend grief counseling before returning to the air. A reluctant Ryan finds himself in a support group for "life change" where he meets an oddball cast of characters, all with their own backstories filled with varying degrees of loss. On his very first visit, Ryan convinces the group to deviate from their normal session and starts a tournament-style competition (March Sadness!) to find out whose story is the worst. Ryan’s total lack of interest in "the healing process" proves distracting, and he soon butts heads with the by-the-books group leader, Lauren, played by Tony Award-winner Laura Benanti ("The Playboy Club"). Back at work, Ryan is confronted with the fact that he hasn't really processed his grief and realizes Lauren and the other members of the group might be key in helping him move on. Also starring are Tony Award winner Julie White (“Transformers”) as Anne, Tyler James Williams (“Everybody Hates Chris”) as Owen, Suzy Nakamura (“Dodgeball”) as Yolanda, and Brett Gelman as Mr. K (“30 Minutes or Less”).

For anyone who has ever lost anyone and attempted to find solace in a “grief group,” this show is laugh-until-you-cry-funny! It is surprisingly poignant, and Matthew Perry, who is one of my favorite comedians of all time, is endearing, hilarious, and quippy! The supporting cast proves that “magic in a bottle” really is possible with the right casting. It’s a funny, heartwarming, real show filled with quotable moments to entertain for years to come. ❤️

This is a failed TV show, even if they completed all of a season. So $35 for non-HD is a little on the high side. If it was $20 I'd probably buy it.

I really liked the pilot and I like Matthew Perry, but subsequent episodes became thin and insipid. I am sorry I bought the season based on the pilot.

I caught the show while it was still on its original run on NBC, and in all honesty it's very tragic that NBC decided to cancel the show after 1 season. The show had a very nice concept, and a great cast of characters. A show that got cancelled too soon... Here's to hoping another channel picks it up.

Great Show but another series messup by iTunes numbering the episodes. Is it really that hard to get it right? Not as bad as all the TV shows on iTunes missing episodes but the episode Go Deep numbered 17 is episode 16.
  • As good as "Arrested Development"

...but in a different way. "Arrested Development" was unrelentingly funny and smart, but dark. Go on is NOT dark, but just as unrelenting. Truly excellent.
  • Funny step up from "friends"
