I bought this show hoping it would be more like the Australia or UK versions and sadly it wasn't. The kids only stay in the house for about 4 days, and I thought 8 days was pushing it LOL. The parents go to pick them up instead of having the time to process their expirience and think about reuniting with their parents on the way home. It just felt a lot more superficial and it was a more commercial version that didn't feel like it had the kid's best interest at heart. One last observation is that in the UK and Australia versions, the kids were sent to different parents in cultures all over the world and I feel the culture shock factor made a more lasting impression on them, not to mention it was really fun to watch because you had something different to look forward to in every episode. Don't get me wrong, even though this kids go all around the US and every family is different and still liked watching I didn't love the US version so much.

I've watched some episodes on the CMT website and it seems very unlikely to me that someone could change that much in just a week. Certainly would be interesting to see these kids now as it's been months since they filmed their episode. For the most part the teens aren't nearly as bad as they make out, in some cases it's just an attitude problem. I mean they wouldn't choose kids who belong in juvenile centers or require psychiatric help. But still you wonder how genuine the change of heart or attitude really is. Also you don't have to be raised by strict parents and still be a good person. Another thing I wonder about are the kids from these strict families really happy living in such a controlled environment. I'd say that some of the worst behaved kids I've ever met have, strict parents. They are so controlled and their lives are so regimented that they snap and do all the things they been told not to do.
  • Transformed in ONE WEEK? Get real....

I purchased this series thinking that these troubled teens would be helped and transformed. On the surface it would appear that this is accomplished with every episode. However one must realize that these troubled kids are with these families for only ONE WEEK. If anyone thinks that these problem children are being miraculous transformed in a single week you had better think again. It is too bad that these kids and their problems are being exploited for the financial gain of this network. It would have been more believable and noble for this network to have these kids living with the foster family for several months. Perhaps the contrition of these troubled kids would have been more believable rather than them enjoying their "15 minutes of fame" groveling in front of the cameras. As it stands, it would be interesting to revisit these kids in a year and see how they are doing. My guess is that virtually all of them will not have changed a bit. This could have been an excellent series and an opportunity to help some troubled young people. I hope that this critique will find it's way back to the creators of this series and hopefully they will consider truly helping these kids rather than exploiting them.
