A friend had to twist my arm to watch the pilot for BSG a couple years ago, and I thank him for doing it. This is simply one of the best TV dramas ever. I'd put it up there with "The Wire". Some episodes in season 2 were almost uncomfortably timely, addressing issues of whether there is a right or wrong in war, and the difficulty of making decisions that might affect the lives of others - how do you balance what your gut tells you with what the information says? There's enough scientific realism to keep us geeks mostly happy (spacecraft that manuevers like an object in vacuum!) and a gritty, lowest-bidder feel to military life - cramped barracks, cranky equipment, and long hours. In between epic battle scenes and a few romantic interludes, there are a a whole bunch of story lines, and they're things that anyone could relate to. I could go on, but you should just download and watch at least the pilot episodes. If you like them, you're in for a hell of a ride, if you don't, you're only out a couple bucks.
  • Great "Best of" mix

Ronald Moore seemed to pick a good mix of the best episodes from seasons 1-3, and it also seems that he picked what is most needed to watch the end of the show, or the finale Daybreak. The only eps I feel are really missing are; Resurrection Ship 1&2, Maelstrom, & Kobol's Last Gleaming pts 1&2.
  • Great Show; Not the Top Episodes

BSG is truly one of the best shows on TV today, and these are great episodes. Though I agree that 33, Pegasus, Downloaded, and both Lay Down Your Burdens and Exodus eps belong on this list, I'd have substituted Scar, Crossroads Pt. 2, Resurrection Ship 1 & 2, The Passage, and Guess What's Coming to Dinner? for the rest. Still, this set has Moore's picks, and they give you a good look at a terrific show.

If you don't like Battlestar Galactica you are probably a Cylon. Then again Cylons probably enjoy their own show. In short Battlestar has made me see potential of what TV and film can be.

Most Amazing Television Ever. It's not perfect, sometimes falling prey to head-spinning plot twists, melodrama and lack of Spanish subtitles, but what a show! What a precious show. Too bad the main themes are lost on people like Rosetta boy.

Battlestar Galactica has challenged science fiction story tellers all over world like no other piece of film has. What I mean by that is that it makes sci-fi film makers actually put characters and their relationships before the actual essence and meaning of the type of science fiction that the film maker might be trying to come up with. Science fiction has always been about the unknown or "how can we make this look like its totally different than things we see in everyday life". Science Fiction has always been about the visuals and not about the characters. BSG is about both but it reminds us that without characters their would be nothing "interesting" to look at as the characters of BSG are the things that are the most intriguing to us as viewers. No story in the history of mankind has been without great characters. It just so happens that BSG was the first piece of Science Fiction to sucessfully tackle both the literal side and the fiction side of Sci-Fi. Ron Moore's a (plug for famous word on BSG) genius but my list would differ from his. Although I really am pleased that he included the episode "Flesh and Bone" from season one as its one of my personal faves because it was a more personal episode. The thing with BSG though is that their really isn't a possibility of compiling a bad Top 12 list of Episodes. BSG will stand the test of time as not just an incredible science fiction accomplishment but an outstanding overall piece of work no matter what the genre. BSG transcended its genre because it told us a story that was both real and unique. So Say We All.
