This is one of my favorite 90s horror movies. Part sci-fi thriller, part all-out shocker, this is a morality tale about animal cruelty. Ally Sheedy stars as an ambitious reporter who unexpectedly rescues Max, a large, friendly black dog from a lab where animals are used as guinea pigs in cruel experiments. It’s too bad that Laurie, the reporter, had no idea what she had just unleashed. Max is the end result of an experiment to create the perfect guard dog. According to his creator, a scientist played by Lance Henriksen, Max is a time bomb with the antipsychotics that keep him from eventually becoming a nearly unstoppable killing machine. As the story progresses, we find that all it takes for this to happen is for Max to be mistreated by nearly everyone he encounters! Man’s Best Friend is a total nightmare for fans of horror movies where nature strikes back!
