Description

Pulsing with the rhythm of his greatest stand-up, Chris Rock’s TOP FIVE takes things to the next level, reveling in the high and the low, and blending a star-studded comedic romp with an irresistible romance. TOP FIVE digs under the surface of show business, politics, rap, and the exigencies of being black and famous today—holding it all up to the light in the way only Chris Rock can. Mingling echoes of Woody Allen and Dick Gregory with the energy of Kanye West and Jay Z, TOP FIVE is an original and radically new kind of American movie. Written by, directed by, and starring Chris Rock, TOP FIVE tells the story of New York City comedian-turned-film star Andre Allen, whose unexpected encounter with a journalist (Rosario Dawson) forces him to confront the comedy career—and the past—that he’s left behind. TOP FIVE is the star-studded comedy critics are calling “dazzlingly, uproariously funny”.

I love this movie. I stayed engaged. I’ve watched it three times. 1st time stag, 2nd time w/a friend, 3rd time w/another friend. I just love the conversations that this film inspires. GREAT MOVIE Mr. C. Rock!

This is one of those sleepers that didn’t make it to my little town, so when it was a 99 cent rental on iTunes, I grabbed it. What I thought would be a bit of distraction and a few laughs turned out to be a GREAT movie! So great, I immediately bought it. This is a beautiful, funny, thoughtful, funny masterpiece, with wildly quirky characters and a bit of culture shock thrown in. It’s also another love letter to NYC, and. as good as anything Woody Allen ever thought of back when his movies were still great. Everyone I’ve turned it on to, loves it too. Don’t miss this one. (I only hope Chris does more movies in future. He has a genius for them.) And can I just say to the people who are giving this a low rating: This is NOT Chris Rock’s stand up. Yes, I love his stand up, too, but this is the work of a guy who has so much more to show us than just the funny. Watch it again, without the preconceptions, and see if you don’t regret your 3 stars.

I love Chris Rock but this movie is so bad I couldn't even finish it. Boring, looks like something an amateur would film while following somebody around, no story line. Completely disappointed.
  • Too far...

I was disappointed at how far they took certain elements of the story - way beyond the R rating IHMO and it added nothing to the story, which was very good. I am a huge fan of Rock's work and his ability to cut through the PC world to really address important issues (Head of State) but this ended up being a debauch that left a bad taste...

The movie started out in a manner that showed potential, but then turned to cliches and trash content in any manner possible. Sold out trying to buy cheap laughs, and ended up being total garbage.

    1. when he visits his family and they sit around joking and laughing and talking about their top five. that’s the whole movie, right there. would have been great if there was more of that. 2. his stand-up act. more of that would have been great too. the rest of it is pretty bad. the story-line. no. the acting. no. which is a shame. and I’m not sure what the point of this movie was. it didn’t hold together.
  • Watch 2 Days in New York Instead

The only food for thought here is why Chris Rock & Kevin Hart insist on littering every sentence with the N Word… Oh, yeah… It pays well.

Just a great modern story and dark comedy with some crazy situation. This is refreshing, because most movies are water down comedy. The absurdity of his fiancé realty TV show is very fitting for the time. There is also a great love story at the heart of this Film. I really enjoyed this movie. Bravo Rock
