Description

In the midst of dropping out of college and coming out as a gay man, Joe decides as an experiment to record his everyday activities, from the mundane to the most intimate, on a handheld mini-video camera and post the clips on the internet as "Famous Joe." A fiction film told in the style of a documentary, THE FAMOUS JOE PROJECT uses Joe's own footage as well as interviews with his friends, family, and lovers to tell a profoundly intimate coming-of-age story that is by turns funny, sexy, heartbreaking and inspiring. Famous Joe's project tests the limits of what the camera can capture and the soul can express.

Didn’t know what to expect. I have an serious problem with found footage films that don’t have true justification for their visual approach. But what I loved about The Famous Joe Project was that the approach was perfectly weaved into the story. There really isn’t a better way to tell this story. In fact because of it, I felt like I was participating in these characters lives rather than watching them. Reviews should not be synopses, so I’ll just say that the story is populated with very real, human performances, I laughed out loud dozens of times, and I felt like I’d being granted secret access through a journey in Joe’s life. Watch it if you like: to laugh, smart performances and a compelling story told in a unique but skilled way.
