Description

2013 ACADEMY AWARD WINNER for Best Documentary Short, INOCENTE is the story of a talented 15-year-old Latina who, as an undocumented homeless immigrant, fiercely pursues her dream of becoming an artist. Inocente survived life's greatest challenges, punctuated by a father deported for domestic abuse and an endless shuffle, year after year, through the city's overcrowded homeless shelters and the constant threat of deportation. By chronicling the journey of this immensely talented young woman, the documentary sheds light on the current lightning rod issues of immigration and homelessness in America in a strikingly personal way. From filmmakers Sean Fine and Andrea Nix Fine, directors of the Academy Award-nominated documentary WAR/DANCE.

Blessed to have shared this movie with my 13 year old son. The ability to express through art, the struggle to identify oneself with our higher self is clearly identified in this film. We were both inspired - GREAT film!!!!!

If you've ever looked at a painting and connected with it on any level...this movie is for you. It's a story that just rips at your heart and makes you believe that love finds its way through the darkest of places. This is one of those things on iTunes, the one that you're not sure it deserves your money, or your time. Let me relieve you of all doubt...just click, and enjoy. The documentary itself is beautifully done, but it's the story and the Inocente herself that makes you happy you clicked. I don't think I have ever written a review before. Enjoy...and then tell everyone you know to watch it.

I have the honor of knowing Ino, and she is unassuming, quiet, sweet and very bright. Her art captures the spirit inside of her and transcends her former circumstances. I have watched the film several times and recommend it highly for those who are unfamiliar with this one face of homelessness in San Diego. Her art brings her joy, The film has given her a voice, and she now knows that people do indeed care. Bravo for such a wonderfully done film! It deserves an Oscar!
