Are the people who commented before saying that this movie isn’t actually based on true events. It’s actually almost entirely based on reality as reported by the news, to the point where I cringed because it seemed disrespectful to the actual victim. The reason it’s thought provoking, at least to anyone who is capable of having thoughts provoked, is because it’s amazing the extent to which people will listen to authority. Frankly I think it’s the perfect example to show why instead of teaching people to mindlessly obey cops we should be holding cops accountable for their crappy behavior. This is the kind of crap that happens when people are taught to OBEY.

I wonder how many people would refuse to comply given the threat of arrest?

The acting was fine. Problem? This subject should not be dealt with in this way. I gave it one star because learning about how vulnerable some folks are to perceived authority should be demonstrated and discussed in a straight forward way (Milgram Experiment, etc) not a gratuitous way. This movie was not informative, it was sickening. If was the manager of a fast-food joint and got a phone call like the one in the movie, I would not take any orders from the voice on the other end of the line at all. Anyone in America that’s accused of a crime has the right to face their accuser.

Watched the first hour of the movie and became so upset that I had to turn it off. How could something similar to this actually happen in real life. I just could not handle the movie or the thought of how mentally incompetent people have become.

This movie chronicles an actual event that occurred at a McDonald's in Mt Washington, KY several years ago. I don't know why they used "inspired" but I assume it's for legal reasons as the people involved and events closely mirror how it actually occurred. The situation in KY was not the only instance, as depicted in the movie, the person who made the call was in another state and had performed the same hoax on various other fast food chains throughout the country. The film is very good at showing how people can use a position of authority to manipulate, that people feel some need to be obedient, even when it calls for them to do something that they know to be wrong. Fast food restaurants are full of young poorly training managers who are less likely to question and as this demonstrated, become willing participants. If you like this, a guy wrote a book titled "Obedience" a few years ago that uses a different setting but it was based on the events at this particular McDonald's restaurant.

This is one of the best independent films of the year - it is wild that the concept behind the story is true - but you should see it as you will be glued to the story from the start to the last seconds of the credits.

This movie is based on the true events of a girl named Louise Ogborn who was made to strip in the back room of a McDonalds because a guy pretending to be a cop told Louise's boss to do it. I can not believe there was even a movie made about this and how stupid this girl was/is. The acting in this movie is abismal and it makes absolutely no sense why they never question anything. The movie lacks any kind of suspense or anything that makes a movie worth watching. The only good thing is seeing Dreama Walker topless and even thats not much of a thrill.

Compliance is unnerving for many reasons yet it's an outstanding film, nonetheless. It's easy for the viewer to sit and watch the events unfold and think, "Why in the hell are these people obeying a voice on the phone?" or "How could a person think these requests are standard protocol?" However, we're a society that has been "trained"—for lack of a better word—to instinctively follow orders from someone in an authoritative position; especially when a badge is involved. As kids, we're taught the police are our friends; they're the people we seek when we're in danger. The idea that the police will "save us" is drilled into our heads again and again as we grow up. In this film, you have a group of people in an extraordinary situation which has taken them out of their normal comfort zone. You add that to the inherent thought that the police are our friends and you have a recipe for potentially disastrous results. As I mentioned, it's easy to say "I would never do something like this," but you simply don't know how you'll react until you're in the throes of a situation such as this. Yes, this movie is very uncomfortable to watch. And yes, you want to scream at the TV and tell them to stop being so ignorant. But the sad fact is, situations like this happen all the time. Maybe not to this extreme, but the abuse of power is nothing new. Certainly, the majority of men and women who posses a badge do not exploit their rank and position. However, we have to remember that we do have the right to question things and speak up when our gut tell us something is wrong. This film is certainly not for everyone. To me, it's far scarier than any horror movie merely because it could really happen to someone. And it did happen to someone. Please don't discount this film because of the reviews that say it's stupid or not realistic. It's gritty and raw and will stay with you after you finish watching it. But maybe that's a good thing. Maybe you'll be more alert and cognizant of what's happening the next time you're in a situation that involves someone in an authoritative position such as a policeman. Maybe you won't immediately pull over on the side of a dark road because you see flashing lights behind you. Maybe you'll be more mindful and find a lighted parking lot or area to pull over just to be on the safe side.
