Description

Bill Murray has joined the Army, and the Army will never be the same! When John Winger (Murray) loses his job, his car, his apartment and his girlfriend, all in one day, he decides he only has one option: volunteer for Uncle Sam. He talks his friend Russell (Harold Ramis) into enlisting with him. Where else, they figure, can they help save the world for democracy and meet girls! John and Russell find basic training a snap: they are arrested twice, have endless run-ins with their drill sergeant (Warren Oates) and get into a big mess at a female mud-wrestling match. They even steal a top secret government vehicle to take some gorgeous female MPs on a date, and wind up behind the Iron Curtain. Stripes is outrageous fun! And that's the fact Jack!

  • Don't buy on iTunes... This is why --->

I bought this version of Stripes when it was on sale for $4.99 and I regret it because it seems that Columbia Pictures/Sony took an old standard definition print and tried to convert it into a digital high definition version which unfortunately failed... the final product that is being sold on iTunes has many quality issues including video artifacts, pixelation and graininess that make the movie unwatchable, I mean for christ sakes I was watching an old Jayne Mansfield movie "Promises! Promises!" from 1963 which is in black and white and has a superior high definiion quality then this piece of garbage that Columbia/Sony is trying to shill on unsuspecting buyers. This needs to be removed from iTunes and re-encoded until they get it right. This is not how I want to remember Stripes which in my book is one of the big classic 1980s movies that I enjoy watching over and over.

I remember watching this with my dad 10 or so years ago and thinking it was good, but after rewatching it in 2019, i've realized its not. The jokes aren't funny or cute... mainly just sexist and racist. The acting is weird too. I really like Bill Murray, and I really wanted to like this movie, but I just don't. I would not reccomend anyone watch this movie unless they want to like Mr. Murray a little less.

For everyone saying don’t buy this extended cut if you buy it you will see it has the extended cut and the theatrical version. This movie is a classic and a must see.

I agree with folks who would prefer the deleted scenes in the extras section vs. included in an extended cut that both slows the film down and robs it of nostalgic value. It's a 5 star classic in a 4 star package, which I guess in some respects is similar to the EM50, an urban assult vehicle that was designed for maximum comedic effect.

One of the best classic 80's movies of all time!!! Murray is young and at his peak in this movie!!

I am not a fan of extended cuts. Usually they include unfunny jokes that deserved to be cut. Please have the theatrical version available for this classic.
  • Get the theatrical version or bundle it with the extended version

This movie along with a lot of other funny classic movies are best enjoyed as the originals not extended cut versions that a lot of times disappoint. The extra scenes were cut out for a reason. They're not funny or are raunchy or just lousy. Start bundling the theatrical version with them if you must sell extended cut versions and keep the price the same.
