My wife and I recorded this on our DVR when it was first released in 2008 and watching it is one of our favorite annual Christmas rituals. The writing is brilliant. Very clever. And the custom songs are expertly crafted. This is a smart show.

As many have said, it's expensive for the length and the quality. i loved it. I love and adore Colbert, so I thought it was worth it. If you just think that it might be interesting to watch, don't spend the money. if you're like me and love every second of Colbert, then buy it because you'll love it.

My rating isn't for the special; it's all fine and good. My rating is for the price; it's a TV special, so it should cost less.
  • Tried too hard

It tried too hard, to he honest. I love Stephen Colbert's show, and he's really funny...but he tried too hard, and it ended up being lame.
  • Please forgive me, Stephen . . .

But it's really not worth ten bucks. I agree with the other guy. I did love it, it was hilarious, especially Willie Nelson's part, and I love Colbert in general, but it should have come at a reduced price because it's so short.

If you absolutely love Colbert then definitely buy it. Otherwise you might be disappointed. Don't get me wrong, it's good. I enjoyed it. But it's only 43 minutes long. That's the exact same length of an hour-long TV show episode without the commercials. I'm a huge Lost fan but I wouldn't pay $9.99 for a single Lost episode. That's exactly what this is. I guess since it's a "Christmas Special" they can charge 5x more?
  • Christmas... just like grandma used to watch

A goofy parody of all those old celebrity Christmas specials (Perry Como! Bing Crosby! Bob Hope! Kenny Rodgers!) you didn't watch as a kid but always seemed to be on. Mr. Colbert is perfectly cast as the smug white guy in a festive sweater who discovers the true meaning of commercialization and sings about it with a string of musical guest stars. Yet, amid the silliness and satire, even a touch of sentimentality. You'll laugh. You'll cry. Your familiy will laugh at you for crying. Ah, now that's Chirstmas the way I remember it! - mattmchugh
