  • Great movie, but this version doesn’t have subtitles

About 10% of this movie is spoken in Italian, but no subtitles are provided during those scenes. I tried every setting. (After watching, I checked other services, and they do have subtitles for those same scenes.)

Complex tell of the restaurant scene in an undisclosed NY/NJ location with one struggling and one successful from different immigrant perspectives - those who 'adoped' to those who don't . Are you interested in pleasing your customers or your self? Compelling interelationships between multiple characters.

A wonderful, artfully done, story of staggering attention to detail and uncompromising views on food. It is slow. It is simple. It is not for everyone. But, if you enjoy food, movies with extreme attention to detail and full of beautiful shots, don’t give it a second though and watch immediately.

I loved this film, especially the very last scene. The film is heartwarming, funny, and absolutely delicious. It brought back memories of family dinners prepared by my mother and aunt in all their Italian glory. Stanley Tucci and Tony Shaloub are wonderful as the brothers. Minnie Driver and Mark Anthony, though he really says nothing throughout the film, are very good in their supporting roles. Isabella Rossellini, as ever, is beautiful. If you don't have a craving for an Italian meal after viewing this.......

A perfect story! Absolutely loved this film & have recommended to friends. Great actors in wonderful roles--kept me interested the whole time. (Made me hungry for some delicious pasta too!)

A fantastic movie, where Family triumphs over all. What really makes me mad, is, i tunes does not offer the song; Stornelli amorisi by Claudio Villa. A haunting song.

After reading the reviews and watching the trailer, I was inspired to see what I hoped would be an interesting film that explored the foodie world, brotherhood, life or some combination of the foregoing. After nearly two hours, I was still left hoping that I would see one of the foregoing. Although the film did have glimpses of genius (including the first portion of the egg scene at the end--it was ruined by overdoing it), I was waiting to be inspired by any aspect of the movie. From a foodie perspective, it never made the connection with food nor did you get inspired by getting the feeling that he was making the most inspired dishes on the planet. The connection between the brothers never happened and it seemed as they were two ships passing in the night (as did all the relationships in the movie). Nothing seemed like it was inspected enough--it was just an artsy flair to be artsy with no substance ever flowing from the endeavor. To me it was the promise of an interesting appetizer that just failed to deliver in presentation or in taste.

The scrambled egg scene at the end is one of the best in movies. Perfect.

A simple film about a couple of Italian brothers feeling their way around America, New York/New Jersey specifically. No car chases, no sex, no violence - just a film based around food and the Italians who cook and serve it. It's beautiful and simple and you better not watch it when you're hungry.
