Description

Matthew Broderick and Danny DeVito star in this hilarious holiday comedy as two competitive neighbors who try to put the "win" in "winter!" Determined to unseat Steve Finch (Broderick) as the town's holiday season king, Buddy Hall (DeVito) plasters his house with so many decorative lights that it'll be visible from space! When their wives (Kristin Davis and Kristin Chenoweth) bond, and their kids follow suit, the two men only escalate their rivalry, and their decorating. It's anybody's guess whether the holidays will wind up jolly or jostled in this wild laugh-fest the whole family will love!

Don’t waste your time watching this over the top cliche movie with some of the worst writing I’ve seen for any movie.

Lots of laughs and fun. Nothing to do a character analysis and questioning storyline development that is pointless. Enjoy yourself...

This is literally one of the worst movies I have ever seen. There wasnt a single good joke in there. DeVito at his worst.
  • Hilarious.

I watch this movie multiple times every year around Christmas. I fully admit it is awful if you really go in-depth and break down every flaw and plot-hole, but I enjoy it nonetheless because Danny DeVito and Matthew Broderick are very likeable and watchable actors but be warned, their fictional families turn in some of the worst acting performances on the silver screen to this date, however, the two protagonists are good. Perhaps I have a soft spot for this movie because I also go all out in decorating my house every year and I guess I like the topic. Sometimes, in my more sober moments, I actually listen carefully to the dialogue and yes, it really is dreadful but again, if you are looking for a nice family comedy to watch at Christmas time and go into it understanding that you won't be seeing it again come awards season, you will enjoy this film.

Despite the critics' dislike of this film, my extended family and I laughed our you-know-whats off. The film is silly and sophomoric but we couldn't help ourselves from nearly falling off the sofa from laughing so hard. Just remember that Danny Devito rarely if ever plays a likable character but you can't begrudge his character his redemption in the end.
