On April 12, 1862, a party of 22 union spies led by James J. Andrews stole a train from under the noses of 4,000 Confederate troops near Atlanta, Georgia, thereby beginning a race which might have brought an early end to the Civil War.

This is a true story of how Union Raiders attempted to destroy a main railway between Atlanta and Chattanooga during the war for southern independence. It has a good storyline and is fairly historically correct. An educational and entertaining movie for all ages.

I have watched this movie when I was five. Now I am fourteen and hadn't watched this movie since or even remembered it. If tjk3509 is reading this, i want u to know that I was thinking the same thing. This got me hooked up on trains too which makes me like traveling along them. The movie Stand By Me also not only inspired my railroad and train interests but the memories of good times, lord just being a ramblin man. Heh
Sweet nostalgia...

I remember watching this on the Disney Channel when I was a little kid (early to mid 1990's, if memory serves); it really got me hooked on trains (and the film's central steam locomotive, the General, in particular) and it's every bit as fun to watch now as it was then (The CinemaScope presentation - 2.35: 1 -certainly helps)!
scary!!!!
