Description

In a futuristic resort, wealthy patrons can visit recreations of different time periods and experience their wildest fantasies with life-like robots. But when Richard Benjamin ("Goodbye, Columbus") opts for the wild west, he gets more than he bargained for when a gunslinger robot, portrayed by Academy Award-winner Yul Brynner ("The King and I", "The Magnificent Seven"), goes berserk. Written and directed by "Jurassic Park" author and "E.R." creator Michael Crichton. With Emmy-winner James Brolin ("Marcus Welby, M.D.", "Hotel") and Dick Van Patten (TV's "Eight is Enough"). Followed by a sequel, "Futureworld".

For me, Yul Brenner played one of my favorite villains of all time. HIs deadpan performance, the voice, the fact that he never chased down his victims in a sprint. Just that "Clink, clink, clink..." of relentless pursuit. Much more menacing than Darth Vader or the T1000. Love the new show, but this movie is worth a look.
  • Amazing in hindsight.

I'm sure when this movie came out in 1973 a lot of people thought it was just a silly Sci-Fi "B" movie. Nothing special. But seeing it now in 2017 - 44 years later - it's amazing to see how prophetic this movie was. At face value I would give the movie 3 stars but when you add its prophetic value and relevance to our modern time it deserves a full 5 stars.

It might be dated (so is the Star Trek series...) but it's a sci fi classic. Make some popcorn, turn out the lights and just enjoy it.

One of the great precursor films to first address the fear of the A.I. Machines taking over. It’s a great classic that still holds up now especially since we are getting ever closer to in this day and age to creating these very machines for our own entertainment. Maybe the effects are dated but the very “idea" itself shows that we have been haunted and very concerned about the day when the machines revolt and destroy their makers. I would really like to see an updated version of this film, I think that with a good director a lot more could be added. It makes for a great story and worth watching. Just remember this was made in 73 when effects were still being worked on, it predates Star Wars I believe. I always remember the show “the Bionic Man” and "The Bionic woman” when they were fighting off these same kind of robots with their faces always falling off. Classic!

This is the EXACT SAME STORY, just a different theme to the park. Of course, it was the same author as well, just many years before. All that aside, the "original Terminator" is not the best movie out there, but was a lot of fun nonetheless. Highly entertaining, though totally implausible.

Immediately drawn into the premise of a creation of worlds which captivated me for about the first half hour. Then it becomes very predictable for the next 30 minutes falling flat in the final third. I don't want to give anything away so I will leave it at that. I guess what I am saying is that this movie could have been so much better if they would have taken the original story line and done more with it. An interesting movie considering when it was made and somewhat entertaining because of the retro sci fi and associated "futureness" and bad acting. Probably worth a watch but you are not likely to put it in your classics list.

A futuristic take on a western genre. A good watch for sure.

Richard Benjamin's acting was so wooden I kept looking for the strings. Plot started out interesting but then degenerated into non belief. Why did all the robots shut down except the Gunslinger? Why, when it got so hot the staff seemed to die from the heat, did they keep on their lab coats. All in all, a quite disappointing movie.
