Description

Davey Osborne is an imaginative youngster who loves role-playing games, and who often enlists the aid of his best friend, an imaginary super-spy named Jack Flack. One day he witnesses a real murder of an FBI agent who passes a videogame called "Cloak & Dagger" to him before he dies. When the police come, the body is gone, and no one will believe him, including his father, Col. Hal Osborne. Soon Davey finds himself up to his neck in hairbreadth escapes, real bullets, and slam-bang action as the hitmen close in. Can Jack save him before time runs out? Cloak & Dagger stars Henry Thomas of E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, Dabney Coleman in a dual role of Jack and Davey's father, and Michael Murphy.

  • Movie too scary for nine year old?

Just some FYI, Apple did not make this movie. Also it was made in the 80's, a period of time where moral ambiguity and censorship were fairly blurred. There were pg and pg-13 movies back then that would be rated for higher age groups than todays movies, but thats simply because movies like those existed in the first place. Yes, there was murder and conspiracy in this film but it was meant to be a family suspense film, not a children's film. The intention was to give you something to talk about with your kids. So congratulations, you've done exactly that. This film is great and brings back lots of memories for me. Growing up with movies like this and The Navigator, Krull and Invaders from Mars really makes you nostalgic for those lost 80's era moments in time. This wasn't an award winning movie, but its a lot of fun and I remember being shocked at the scenes when I was younger. I loved it. Good job to Apple for making these older movies available.
  • Great Movie!!!!

Cloak & Dagger was a great movie that portrays the unfortunate but true aspects of espionage. The movie takes place in San Antonio, Texas where 11-Year old Davey Osborne (Henry Thomas) resides. While playing out a mission with his friend and neighbor Kim he is given a "Cloak & Dagger" game cartridge by an FBI agent just before he is murdered. The only problem is that no one believes what Davey says happened, not even his father despite the fact that they are now after him. So he enlists help from his imaginary friend, hero and fellow spy Jack Flack for help against the foreign spies trying to smuggle stolen government intel out of the country. Along the way Davey will come to face many questions and come face-to-face with many obstacles that he must dodge or face head on to reach the objective before it is too late. If you are a big video game fan or a person who loves suspense this is a great movie for you because of its basis around the video game "Cloak & Dagger" and its non-stop action. This movie will have you biting your nails and wondering what is going to happen next. However, movie fans who are easily offended by killing scenes should use caution due to a couple of murder scenes and a case of self-defense that some viewers might consider controversial. This movie should only be viewed by children 11 years of age and older due to mild violence. This movie stars Henry Thomas as Davey Osborne and Dabney Coleman in a dual role as Jack Flack and Davey's father Master Sergeant Hal Osborne. Movie Fans, take a seat, dim the lights and enjoy this action packed thriller.
  • Nostalgic Trip Back to the 80's... and San Antonio

Fun to watch, I was 11 when this movie came out. The movie takes place during summer of 1984 in San Antonio. The film follows a typical adolescent boy played by Henry Thomas and his next door neighbor slightly younger than him. The kid loves adventure spy drama and puts his father (Dabney Coleman) on a pedestal re-imagining him as a "secret agent" who is really a MSgt at San Antonio's Kelly AFB. He runs afoul of no-kidding spies and of course no one believes him and just assumes he's playing out one of his spy fantasies. If you are from San Antonio this is a nostalgic trip across downtown seeing the Riverwalk, Alamo, Tower of Life Building, the Japanese Tea Gardens (Sunken Gardens) and other familiar haunts (Pig Stand on Broadway anyone?). The movie also dates itself which is somehow a bonus watching the city as it was then (which in some cases is not that different). Look for William Forsythe in an early role as "Morris", a back office computer lab geek and not so much the tough bad guy character he would later portray as well as comedian Louie Anderson as a cab driver. This movie is a product of the early to mid-80s so you're going to see Atari video games, boxey Chevy looking cars and plenty of "Members Only" jackets. This was a fun flick for a 10-13 yr old to watch and play out their fantasies. By todays standards some might think it's dumb but honestly I think this flick would be fun for a mid-30's adult of today (2010) to return to and revisit the era. The film also has a rousing "Cloak & Dagger" march for a score.
  • This movie was too scary for my nine-year-old son

My son is not used to watching a lot of television so he may be particularly sensitive, however I felt that some of the elements in the film were too explicit for his age group. The movie was quite suspenseful and had several violent scenes or parts where the young main character was threatened by adults. The main character in the movie cannot trust any of the adults and must take the situation into his own hands to the point of killing one of the criminals that threaten him. How does one justify killing another human being, even if in self defense? My son had nightmares after watching the film but it was also an opportunity for discussion about the value of human life, what is legitimate where self defense is concerned and what else the boy could have done instead of killing his adversary. This is a good movie with a suspenseful plot, but it lacks psychological and moral depth.

OMG. I used to love this movie growing up partly because it was filmed in my hometown and takes place in it! but as well as the whole premise behind the movie. Definitely a good movie to watch for those of us early 80s kids and most especially if you are fond of video games the pre-nintendo era. :)

I grew up watching this movie. It's near and dear to me for many different reasons. I'm still a gamer to this day and enjoy how the storyline is woven around the game. If you haven't checked it out, and you're a fan of 80's movies, it's well worth the purchase!

I mean, it's not anything special. I see it on TV quite frequently. You might like it, or not. I don't know. That's your opinion. Haha, first review.
