Description

Firewall stars Harrison Ford as bank security expert Jack Stanfield, whose specialty is designing infallible theft-proof financial computer systems. But there's a hidden vulnerability in the system he didn't account for - himself. When a ruthless criminal mastermind (Paul Bettany) kidnaps his family, Jack is forced to find a flaw in his system and steal $100 million. With the lives of his wife and children at stake and under constant surveillance, he has only hours to find a loophole in the thief's own impenetrable system of subterfuge and false identities to beat him at his own game.

  • Tense Drama stands up to Time

This movie was produced in 2006 and unless you have become completely addicted to highly teched-out scenes and chases and "absolutely perfect" actors chosen for their looks and popularity rating I think you'll like it. It has real tension in it, not just "movie tension." The emotions run thick and fast, the better to keep up with the story. It is not "pretty," but it is raw and I cared quickly what was happening to this family. One interesting but strange quirk: the voice of the main "bad guy" sounded just like the voice of Tony Stark (Ironman's) computer, Jarvis, too. In this case, it seemed such a haunting non-human character his voice added a big "BadGUY!" message - had the character been a good guy I'd still be waiting to find out he was a faker! To enjoy this movie one has to be willing to accept it was done pre-high tech everything and surround sound. In exchange you get immediacy - I felt that kid was really going to be killed - I fully believed this family was likely going to die - these bad guys seemed to have no souls. And I suffered every second watching Harrison Ford and the family, with no tech aids and little but their wits use what they could find to save themselves. I'm going to buy it!

I bought the movie but harrison's character, does that make him a nerd? It's a good movie but not ford's best. But it's still suspenseful. However everyone knows that Harrison Ford always wins in the end. :) don't mess with ford!

Firewall isn't an outstanding contribution to the thriller genre, but it's not a terribly bad one either. Most of the story, if not thoroughly original, is taut, and there are some interesting action sequences, including one where (believe it or not) Stanfield kills an opponent with a blender. Harrison Ford is good as the bank security expert, whose most likeable quality (in my opinion) is his readiness to beat the stuffing out of anybody who threatens his family. Kudos to Bettany for his role as the eerie, soft-spoken criminal mastermind. Worth a watch (maybe), but not for audiences under 15 (due to profuse language, and a few scenes of intense violence) Opinion Stars: 3 out of 5
  • Not a bad movie but not really a great one either

I saw this on cable but it seemed like Harrison Ford was forcing himself to say his lines. Here are my problems with the movie: The music when the kid ate the peanut -- it was way overdone Harrison Ford with the camera -- He had a wide angle lens on him. You could tell by looking at it that he had a blind spot on the side that he could've easily written a note to Janice. Computer and banking terminals -- with all of the money at stake with the higher security that the guy presented at the beginning. Why not include a video camera with all of your hitech equipment? What bank would have a man piggy-back on another security card without being questioned especially when no one knows who he is? Too many variables and not really that interesting to watch. It seemed like a mismatch of different movies I've seen done better in many other places.
  • Predictable

This could have been a TV show, the quality is about the same. Very predictable plot, you already know what happens, the trailer is all you need to see. Very annoying kids, very poor acting all around. Unconvincing villains. There was no Firewall in this movie, but rather this was a movie adaptation for those bankers whose families got held hostage to rob a bank. Bank VP's don't walk up to techs and tell them how to write ACLs either, but at least it was realistic to an extent, for which the film does get kudos, no excess of fake hi-techery. This could have been better if rated R.

The first time I watched this film at my family's house, my we had to leave with 20 minutes left, and I never got to finish it for four more months. LIfe is tough sometimes. Oh yeah, wasn't that little kid also in that dumb hostage movie? hm...
