Description

It's Samantha Baker's Sweet Sixteen and no one in her family remembers the important occasion. John Hughes, the writer of National Lampoon's Vacation, shows how coming-of-age can be full of surprises in this warm-hearted teenage comedy starring Molly Ringwald. She's your average teen, enduring creepy freshmen, spoiled siblings, confused parents and the Big Blonde on Campus who stands between her and the boy of her dreams. But wait...the day isn't over yet! This sparkling film features a dynamic score, and outstanding performances by Paul Dooley, Emmyยฎ winner Blanche Baker and Oscarยฎ nominee Justin Henry.

Parents should know that the PG rating is truly misleading -- an F-Bomb and nude shower scene at the front of the film caught us completely by surprise, and should have placed this in a cautionary PG-13 category. Having seen this film when it first came out (and at a much younger, childless age), we didn't recal these details, and felt rather sheepish watching with our teenage children. Of course Ringwald's performance was noteworthy, and the film provides some laughs. But we're thinking the film would have worked just fine without all the "language" and overt sexual references.

  • Not the Widescreen version

This is a great movie; unfortunately iTunes and Universal have decided to release the 4x3 standard pan-and-scan version, not the theatrical widescreen version. This movie deserves to be seen in all its glory, not some cropped version.

Great movie love it. Wish they would release it with the missing scenes that were cut out and sometimes shown on TV. Not sure why everyone is shocked by the nudity or language as PG ratings were different in the 80's. That didn't start to change until a decade later. All the movies I watched other than family type movies or G for general audiences if it was PG there was nudity and language it's equal to a PG13 rating of the 90's. My parents had a rule watch it first and judge if they thought we were old enough to watch it. Then they were there to explain anything. I grew up not as sheltered but not as shocked for the world as it is.
