Description

An 1880s Montana cattle baron (John McLiam) hangs a cattle rustler, mostly as an example to the gang's leader (Jack Nicholson). Nicholson vows revenge, but falls in love with the daughter (Kathleen Lloyd) of the cattle baron, and decides to settle down and become a farmer. But he continues to assist the rustlers who still raid McLiam's land. McLiam hires a top-gun bounty hunter (Marlon Brando). Nicholson sets out to kill Brando, but loses his chance. Brando resumes a murderous rampage which will soon wipe out all the outlaws-except Nicholson, who will precede his final battle to the death with Brando in a competition of mugging, switching accents (Brando) and mannerisms that would, in themselves, do in lesser men. This enormously entertaining movie was directed by Arthur Penn.

This is an excellent, original film. Brando is exceptional, as in Nickolson, though all the actors are. The tone is strange and the film takes its time, which is perfect. Each character is unique, and the landscape and each scene, is beautifully done. Thomas McGaune writes an intelligent, imaginative, concrete script. He sees these characters clearly.

Truly sublime. I'm not that up on Brando, but this one makes me appreciate why he's so respected. Nicholson's at his best in this type of role. Quaid and Stanton are really good as well. A low-key story that keeps your attention- there are a lot of better-known movies that can't do that! Great love story, great western action, believeably accurate, off-the-wall funny. Hard to understand why it's not better known. I'll be watching this one again every time I think of it and trying to turn others on to this hidden gem as well. Do not miss! It's one of those movies you may not remember why, but you'll like it very much and want to see it again...

Seems Jo Jo the Dog Face is a little full of himself. He's the nerd in high school that did'nt have any friends and pretended he did'nt need any. He put's everyone down to make himself look smart.

Some of these synopses are succinct and professional, but others include, typos, spoilers, and awkward phrasing. It's very annoying and very amateurish.
  • Marlon Brando is great

in this film. Watching him, one realizes what makes him the greatest actor of our time. He is unafraid to be weird. I love this film.
