  • A wonderful 1970's Sci-Fi

Saw this in Glasgow, Scotland on it's first release. Loved it. Colorful, had some great action, had some not so hidden social commentary of the times. Pure escapist fun. Heston did a great job as did the supporting cast. This concept has been the subject od severall movies and the others have their strengths and weaknesses. This is by far my favorite.

Will Smith should have seen this movie before making his piece of crap.

So finally came around to watch this after I read the book. I am actually a fan of dystopian literature and movies. I did not like the book, even though I do understand why a lot of people find it essential reading in its category. The movie looks and feels very dated. Even putting it in its context as a seventies movies, I still feels awkward and the make up of the creatures/vampires/... is just plain bad. There are some cool scenes in there and Heston does a fine job in the first half hour, but there are some scenes in there were it is ridiculous and involuntarily funny. So not a movie worth watching, even as a film buff.
  • Other adaptations are so much better

I will rate this three stars only because Heston is in it and it does have its good parts from the novel. However the first film adaptation of the book was by far the best of all three. It followed the story so closely (for the most part) it was like watching the novel come to life. I'd recommend this only because of its connection with Heston and the original book. Otherwise if your looking a film that depicts the novel and a great story I'd suggest The Last Man On Earth
  • The best adaptation of the I Am Legend story

Even though I respect Vincent Price and Will Smith for their respective takes on the I Am Legend story I honestly believe that this version was the better of the three. Why? It has this 70's post-apocalyptic feel to it, the action's alright, the cure for this strange disease that's going about actually makes sense, and this one follows the original story the most faithfully. Overall, check this version out before watching The Last Man on Earth and I Am Legend. All three are great sci-fi films.

This is a horrible movie and I suggest you don't buy cuz you'd be wasting you money. I think you should watch the remake of this which is I am legend. Much better and I'm surprised this got 4 stars! It's really dumb and doesn't make any sense! Don't waste your mula!!!

The first half of this film is actually pretty good (really!), if you enjoy shamelessly entertaining sci-fi shlock. Heston performs solo for most of the first half, and carries the load very well (of course). And of course, what should we expect from a Heston flick? Guns and glory, with lots and lots of meaningful violence. Battling the mutant survivors of a biological plague, Heston thinks he's the last human left. But is he? Definitely worth it just to see the deserted streets of L.A. circa early 70's (and with no CGI effects, à la 'I Am Legend') and Heston loving it up with a tough sweetie he meets along the way. The perfect film for your drinking-game needs.
