Even for the fifties, that was the most horrible, abbomnible movies I have ever seen.

This is just as wonderful as the book! And though inner thoughts and contemplations can not be heard or seen, that is typical in a movie, but yet adds to the suspense in this. The Black and white color adds to this movie version, only making it better. All other versions (although great stroires) cannot compare to this magnificent version.

When I first saw that itunes had added this movie, I was very excited because I adore Les Miserables. However, this adaptation completely ignored the facts that Victor Hugo set down in his novel. If you want a good adaptation of Les Miserables, try the one with Liam Neeson. It's not perfect, but it is closer to the book than this is.
  • 1935 or 1952 movie?

We just got this movie from the library. The picture here is actually a picture from the 1935 movie. The library copy has both the 1952 and the 1935 movies on the same disc, the original used here for I tunes is probably the same. I thought the 1935 version to be truer to the book than the 1952 version that is on the preview here at itunes, (at least up to the 16th scene, where the library copy had been damaged, thus my search for a 1935 version).

the book is way better, I would recommend reading the book (you can download the audiobook from itunes, i think) first before watching this movie
