This may be one of the alltime greats. Captures the seediness of the era with petty criminals and their dealings. Just enough flesh to capture the permissiveness of the age while showing the porn industry in its 'brown bag' phase. So the movie is a rock solid 5. The HD version here is almost unwatchible because of severe ghosting when anything moves. Just atrocious.
  • Absolutely atrocious

This is perhaps one of the worst movies ever made. Everything about it is awful, from the script to the direction and an uncommonly terrible performance from a stone-faced Michael Caine. I normally like Caine, but this is obviously before he became an actor. His performance would have to be improved significantly to even rise up to be “wooden” — it’s made of stone. The lavicious nonsense at the beginning was a complete turn-off, as was nearly everything that followed. We stopped watching this about one hour in, and do not care one whit what happened next because there is not a single redeeming character or characteristic within this horrible film.

Absolute classic, one of the greatest British gangster movies, the hardest and most gritty of them all, Michael Caine's definitive tough guy movie and NO HD? Come on iTunes PLEASE give us the original Get Carter in HD!

Wow, I saw the reviews for Get Carter the remake and thought it best to see the original instead. It's really good despite it's age, it could have been done exactly the same way and of been great. I have to mention that the nudity was frequent, like every 15 minutes…which was a bonus.

I don't know what the critics see in this movie. Boring with a lot of 1970's trashy scenes - maybe the critics liked it because the trash was cutting edge at the time of release. Should be flushed down the toilet.
  • Audio is out of sync = $9.99 worth of unwatchable.

Will iTunes release an 'update' to fix this? Five stars for this flick, none for Apple's seeming apathy and carelessness.

I love Michael Caine and wanted to see some of his earlier stuff. Unfortunately this turns into a bit of a titty movie. Ok, we get it. you're so macho that women wet themselves the minute they see you. Well, didn't watch it all the way through - got tired of the boobies. But I do believe there is a decent plot underneath all the macho nonsense. At some point I will watch again and try to see it through to the end. If I do I will re-rate at that time, if it's allowed.

This is by far the best British Gangster film of all time. Michael Caine is superb, the screenplay, cinematography and on location filming accurately depicts the raw essence of England's North East.
