Description

Dan Aykroyd, Jamie Lee Curtis and Anna Chlumsky return as the offbeat Sultenfuss family in this enchanting sequel to "My Girl." The year is 1974. Vada (Anna Chlumsky - My Girl, The Mommy Market) is now 13 years old, and living with her father (Dan Aykroyd - Ghostbusters, Sneakers) and pregnant stepmother (Jamie Lee Curtis - True Lies, Forever Young). When one of her teachers gives an assignment about the life and achievements of someone she's never met, Vada chooses her late mother as the subject. Her research soon leads her to Los Angeles, to stay with Uncle Phil (Richard Masur), his likeable girlfriend (Christine Ebersol) and her streetsmart son, Nick (Austin O'Brian - Last Action Hero). Guided by Nick through the city of Los Angeles in search of clues to her late mother's history, Vada makes some surprising discoveries about her roots and also about herself as she confronts the uncertainties of adolesence - first love, first kisses and her place in a changing family.

  • This is NOT a worthy sequel...

While the first "My Girl" was a wonderful move, this one is a cheap imitation. It plays like the person who wrote the script never even saw the first one...The first one used a lot of implied storytelling, or telling a story with clues, rather than flat out telling the story, to give the background stories of the important characters. In the first movie, it is implied that Vada's parents were high school sweethearts who got married after her dad took over the family business, and then when they decided to start having children, Vada's mom dies while giving birth to their only child, Vada, and her dad is a sad unhappy man ever since. THIS movie throws that whole storyline away, and has Vada's parents as complete strangers who get married after like two weeks...there's lots of stuff that happen in this move that defy logic and common sense, the "comedy" part is trying too hard to be funny (the first movie was funny WITHOUT trying to be...), and all the characters are real cheap references to the first movie, like the only reason they are there is so that the person making the movie could truthfully say that they are there...I would not reccomend this movie...

Supposably Vada gets her 1st kiss in this movie....... but does no one remember that scene by the water in My Girl 1? No one can have a firste kiss twice, am I the only one who is confused here?

I am 20 years old now and even though I first saw this movie about half my life ago, I still love it so much! Its sweet and has such a great heart to it. Also, just as great to me as the first My Girl movie. Definitely worth seeing. Beautiful!

Although my pre-teen nieces like the "first kiss" scene at the end, for me, the best thing about this movie, hands down, is Christine Ebersole as the uncle's girlfriend. She's such a good actress and is endearing in this. "Well, just don't shave your legs. You're parents will never let you come back if I send you home hairless and full of holes." :) It's a genuinely "nice" movie.

I absolutely adored this movie although I haven't seen the first to compare. The one thing that is missing is I can't seem to find the song Smile sung by Maggie Muldovan anywhere! It was beautiful and I'd like to be able to hear it without watching the movie over and over again.
  • Not So Good For a Sequel

Sometimes, sequels aren't always the best. That's why some aren't as successful as the first. The first "My Girl" was so touching, and so moving in ways that could never be explained. In the second one however, it doesn't necessarily have a clear plot. Vada goes through slight changes in the sequel, though there's not much to get out of the film. It has somewhat of a mystery twist to it, though you're not missing out on much.
