Description

Live Free or Die Hard gets real – with real action, real humor, and the reprise of a beloved and iconic character: John McClane (Bruce Willis). On the Fourth of July weekend, an attack on the vulnerable United States infrastructure begins to shut down the entire nation. The mysterious figure behind the scheme has figured out every modern angle… but he never figured on John McClane – the old-school "analog" fly in the "digital" ointment.

This movie is horrible turned it off after 10 minutes. It’s like a totally different movie than the previous Die Hards. McClane’s daughter (Mary Elizabeth Winsted who I’ve seen in Sky High and Cloverfield Lane) was a complete bastard who clearly reignited the estrangement issue (like with his wife Holly in the first movie). They should’ve stopped at Vengeance

This movie was def way more than inexpected when it came out. Sure its an action movie and sure its part 5 or whatever. Sequals dont usually make such great movies. But this movie was awesome from beginning to end. If yiu like action movies. This one wont disapoint. Eveything from the script to the acting to the action sequences and even the directing was great in this film. 4.5-5 easy

Some of the film wasn't realistic, but taking down a helicopter with a car by hitting a cement post and launching through space, driving down an elevator shaft to squish a lady, and blowing up an F-35 with a hazmat truck were believable - I've done all of these myself more than once.

I am both a fan of the Die Hard films--despite their inherent silliness--and also of Bruce Willis. Bear that in mind with regard to this review. This is the best of the Die Hard movies, in my opinion. Whether the computer-crime aspects of it will wear well is hard to say, but it is enjoyable pulp, and Willis has gotten better with age, learning (not unlike Clint Eastwood) how to do more with fewer lines. It is almost impossible to imagine this is the same actor as the goofball in "Moonlighting". In addition, Justin Long--playing a hacker who for a change in Hollywood is not your cliched nerd with a pocket protector and no social skills, and behaves like many a nerd I know--makes a good partner and foil for Willis. Long's character's computer skills are a good match for MacClane's physical prowess, and both learn enough to operate in each other's worlds just a bit. Mary Elizabeth Winstead makes a good damsel-in-distress, especially as she actually fights back, as one would expect from a daughter of John MacClane. And finally, the Big Bad is a good roll for Timothy Olyphant's ability to play simmering anger. (Other than the second movie, one thing the Die Hard films seem to excel at is interesting villains.) This is not high art by any stretch. It's pulp. An action movie. But it is one of the best of the breed, and well worth watching. Enjoy!
