Description

From the bridge of the Fleet Battlestation Ticonderoga, with its sweeping galactic views, to the desolate terrain of planet Klendathu, teeming with shrieking, fire-spitting, brain-sucking special effects creatures, acclaimed director Paul Verhoeven crafts a dazzling epic based on Robert A. Heinlein's classic Sci-Fi adventure. Casper Van Dien, Dina Meyer, Denise Richards, Jake Busey, Neil Patrick Harris, Patrick Muldoon, and Michael Ironside star as the courageous soldiers who travel to the distant and desolate Klendathu system for the ultimate showdown between the species.

If you think this movie is terrible, you’re not wrong. If you think it’s great fun, you’re not wrong either. If the idea of 90210 in space doesn’t immediately turn you off, you might enjoy this. I actually like that this is a departure from the equally silly book. I disagree with those who claim this is clearly an anti-war film and I disagree with those who say this isn’t a thought provoking film. On the surface, it’s one cheap thrill after another. On the other hand, we have to grapple with fascism and why the fascists are the good guys and why we find ourselves rooting for them and their ideology of genocide. It’s a film that ought to make you think about yourself. On the surface, think Star Wars if it had been made for 13 year old boys instead of 7 year old boys, but there may be more beneath the surface.

What a fantastic CAMP movie! I’ve seen it 37 times & each time... it’s GREAT! Now it’s been re-mastered in 4K it will be EVEN better... a Dystopian-future flick. The whole you fight for the country & THEN you become a CITIZEN, reminds me of The Roman Empire.

I must say when this movie came out I was about 12. I also loved Aliens, six fo and military movies so this fit the bill. I must say though it had crap reviews way back then. I watched it this week after 15 years and surprisingly it got better with age. I gave it three stars because let’s be honest, the acting is horrible the script is absurd, at times I can’t believe they approved it. But the movie rocks. Also watching it with surround sound with improved Dolby was awesom!!!!!! Even if you do not have a Dolby soundbar any movie that says atmos is better audio quality than one without saying it.

The greatest sci-fi over the top violent action movie EVER! Paul Verhoeven is one of the best directors of our time and is the king of awesome, iconic, violent sci-fi! It’s even got an awesome militarized orchestrated score by the legendary Basil Poledouris(composer for RoboCop, Red Dawn, Conan the Barbarian...). If you like violent military sci-fi action movies with plenty of giant bug guts, one-liners, and DEFINITELY if you liked the original 80’s RoboCop, this movie is for YOU! Plus...Michael Ironside. Service guarantees citizenship!!!

  • Instant Classic

Based (loosely) upon the book by the same name, this movie goes dutifully through the training of one Johnny Rico of Argentina and into his early military career, a career propelled skyward by the losses incurred during a war against giant insects. The only way to fight them? Human wave attacks with an AWESOME score behind it that make you shed manly tears in one of the most iconic sci fi invasions in cinema history. Add to it a media propaganda machine that could very easily be the future of our current media, a society built around military service (The only way to vote is to serve in the military), and enough battle porn to make you want to jump up and go punish the ant hill in your back yard. This results in an instant classic that is somehow much better than the crap hollywood puts out today, making you wonder just where they started getting it wrong in hollywood.

If you think this is brainless action, you're brainless. Look up what this movie is actually about. Anyways, great movie.
