Although this movie has gotten mediocre to bad reviews, I thought it was well scripted and attention grabbing. It is certainly Sci Fi in that it takes a potential technical capability of embedding a camera/sound system chip in the brain to record one's entire life experiences and analyzes the sociological consequences of having that.
  • Rotten: No character development. No special effects budget!!!

The director did not let Robin Williams shine in any single moment of the movie. If you thought that was impossible with such an amazing actor, this movie is set out to prove you wrong. Do not watch this movie. Even the special effects are far from special, and the "cultures" portrayed in the movie never truly develop to provide the ethos needed to make the movie believable. Do not watch this movie.

I will say that I absolutely loved this film. That being said, it's not a film for most people. However, if you're like me, you will agree with me when I say that this is an absolutely great film-- a philosophical dilemma set to moving pictures-- a work of art. If you want high-octane, action-packed chase sequences where the good guys end up with the curvaceous vixen and the bad guys end up in body bags, this is most certainly not your type of movie. If you want passionate romance and a cliched ending, look elsewhere. If you want to laugh, you shouldn't even have clicked this review. Those with the aforementioned expectations, stop reading now. All others, continue on. It might sound condescending to say, but it's a shame that so many people that have viewed this film claim to have hated it. I really think that they just didn't understand it. They're not used to movies like this--movies with complex "what if" type plots and hypothetical philosophical questions presented through the eyes of someone else. It's not their fault. It's the fault of the steady diet of uninspired shallowness that is forced down our throats through mainstream cinema and media. What this film does have is a palette of emotional imagery that takes you from disgust of sinners to forgiving them; from appreciating and wanting to hew our loved ones' greatest hits into stone for posterity, to questioning if we have the right to not only look through the eyes of others, but to also relive their memories without the emotional context involved. It poses questions, and ties itself off neatly by the time the credits roll. However, you won't stop staring out into space in the general direction of those rolling credits until long after they've stopped. This movie reminds us that what actually happened and our perceptions of what we remember can vary widely enough to change who we are as a person. It leads us to ask, "Are we the sum of our actions and choices in life? Or are we the person that sits behind a computer monitor and judges our actions and choices?" Different people will come up with different answers, and that is what makes this movie worth watching, owning, and remembering.
  • Worth renting but not buying.

Unexpectedly entertaining. Nice plot but there are holes. Go into it just to be entertained and and you'll enjoy it. Worth $0.99 for the rental.

This is a good movie and rakes a couple of views to see behind the movie. I saw it three times, and not until the third time did I really enjoyed it. It is a great movie to rent, but maybe not as much to buy unless you are going to watch it several times. I can't remember all of it seeing how it has been 4 or 5 years since I have seen it, but I know the plot. I definitely recommend it.

Just so you know I have not seen this movie so I might not know what I'm talking about but I think I have a pretty good idea. A lot of people have said this is a movie for Asimovian Sci-fi fans so all of you people who expect an explosive climax are watching the wrong kind of sci-fi. If this truly is an Asimov like sci-fi movie there will be no explosive/dramatic climax. Stop complaining and read "Foundation".

I don't know what I thought this movie was going to be, but it was an interesting and thrilling suprised. Made me start to doubt some of the memories I have... do things really happen the way we THINK we remember them? Who knows? If we could go back and actually see our own memories... would they jibe with what we thought?
  • Nice sci-fi thriller

Not overly complex in its twists, but the philosophy holds together well, and leaves you contemplating more.
