It oozes from each and every individual frame, and that's just from the previews. One of these days, creativity, like the original Wizard of Oz, will be rekindled through hard work and no narratives.

Quite honestly, I didn’t know what I was getting into when I went to see it for the first time. I saw the musical first years ago and when I heard they were making a movie out of this, I was excited for it but I was kind of skeptical about Ariana Grande being Glinda but, she took this character to a whole new level and really did take care of this character like she said she would when she got the role and Cynthia Erivo was such an amazing choice for Elphaba. This movie has probably the best choreography I’ve seen in a movie and the songs are incredible, the characters are great, the production and costume design is just remarkable!! I give John Chu an applause for directing this movie and really taking us on a journey where we can feel like we’re walking through the wonders of the land of Oz. Wicked is definitely worth it 100%. In my mind, this is definitely the biggest highlight of this year and deserves the movie of the year!! Highly recommend this film. You’ll definitely be defying gravity on this one.

One of the most famous Broadway musicals of the 21st century finally becomes the two-part movie the world waited over 20 years for. In terms of this one, the first part that covers the musical's first act, it does its job in making us all believe that "everyone deserves the chance to fly" as we discover all that happened before Dorothy dropped in. Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande were the perfect Elphaba (the future Wicked Witch of the West) and Glinda (the future Glinda the Good), and every other actor literally fit their roles. Jon M. Chu has elevated the “popular” stage musical in ways we couldn’t have ever imagined and he has made the Land of Oz more magical than ever before, complete with "Wizard of Oz" easter eggs and other unexpected cinematic influences. In the end, this film doesn't just defy expectations, it "defies gravity" and deserves to win a ton of awards, especially at the upcoming Oscars (including a well-deserved Best Picture nomination). Really looking forward to Part 2 ("Wicked: For Good," coming November 2025), which they do a good job setting up simultaneously during a finale (as well as THAT shot of Elphaba doing her signature “battle cry” as lightning strikes in the clouds and her cloak billows in the wind) that’s destined to become one of the most iconic in cinema history.
