Description

Jodie Comer gives a stunning performance in this thought-provoking drama set against the brutality of 14th century France from visionary filmmaker Ridley Scott. Based on actual events, the film centers on the accusation by Marguerite de Carrouges (Comer) that she was brutally assaulted by Jacques Le Gris (Adam Driver), her husband Jean de Carrouges’s (Matt Damon) friend. In order to protect his pride and prove his wife’s claim, de Carrouges requests to fight Le Gris to the death. Now, all three lives hang in the balance in this society that holds that the victor of this grisly duel will be determined by God. Moreover, if de Carrouges dies in this fight, Marguerite will be put to death. Also starring Ben Affleck as Le Gris’ scheming ally, the Count d’Alençon, this gripping, cinematic story is based on Eric Jager’s book "The Last Duel: A True Story of Crime, Scandal, and Trial by Combat in Medieval France." The Last Duel is a riveting, suspenseful tale about a courageous woman willing to risk her life in the service of truth.

Story about a rapist, a self serving dink, and a self absorbed boss. I watched it until the end to see if everyone would die… no such luck. Ridley Scott has lost his touch

I believe it is a great period movie showing how people lived as well as how strong the Church was at the time. Not to mention the many rules the Church had on how one lived, or didn’t. It also explores the rules women had to follow, plus how they were considered and looked upon as chattel. Then there is also the rape, and the versions of it, and how what is right didn’t (still doesn’t) matter, only the power of men. I think we are left with wondering about her strength in all of this, because no matter how loud innocence is cried out, she still sat on a pile of wood to be burned alive if Damon’s character failed.

Worse film since Exodus by Sir Scott. At least Exodus had some entertaining moments. If you prefer slow dramas watch The Cider House Rules, or The Widow of St Pierre. This was just a complete bore of a film and the duel payoff was a joke.

I thought this movie was great… three different points of view of the same story I found it outstanding. Also, the action scenes were just phenomenal. I also read the book definitely holds up would highly recommend.

Decent acting and sets, but Affleck is the cure for insomnia once again. This movie feels slow and ponderous, but is not without merit.

This is a true story of a women who claimed rape in the 1300's and put the guy on trial. You just didnt' do that back then and lived...if he was found innocent, she would die a horrible death. The ending was so incrdible I don't think I was even breathing. Cast was incredible. Highly recommended, but remember its 2.5 hrs long so plan ahead!

It is done by telling each one of the characters points of view. Each telling their own lies and each filling their owe egos. A true art piece that will stay with you if you are able to watch it. Todays people might be to in to their phones to truly see what this film truly is.

3 different views of the same events (not terribly different, somewhat enlightening, been done before). When they culminate, it’s well done action, but not much point. Sets, costume, action are good.
