A junior high school "coming of age" story about a young girl's aspiration to become a writer and a boy's desire to one day be a master violin maker. The characters are well developed and beautifully drawn as is always the case with Studio Ghibli. The story itself develops very slowly which is common in Hayao Miyazaki's world building. I found the pacing to be similar to "My Neighbor Totoro", but I much prefer Totoro to Whisper. Some of it is that I love the beautiful outdoor nature backgrounds in the former wheras Whisper is primarily a city film. Also, there is much less fantasy in Whisper, so much so that I feel the cover art is a misrepresentation of the movie. There is really only one very brief scene of "The Baron" coming to life, so if you are expecting a fantasy adventure, you won't find it here. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the themes of Whisper- A young girl expresses the fear that "I'm not good enough" which is common to us all and it is beautifully addressed.

How very lame of Studio Ghibli to not include the original audio track.

This made me seek the best itunes gc deal right now. I was honestly just on ebay looking for a collection of ghibli blurays. This is fantastic. I just spent over $140 for these studio ghibli movies, but I sincerely don’t regret it. Total nostalgia from Whisper of the Heart and Only Yesterday- both totally underrated and yet the best of them. Merry Christmas to me, too.

I can’t believe how much money I just spent buying almost every Studio Ghibli movie now available on iTunes despite owning them on disc. 🤦🏻‍♂️I love these movies so I definitely am happy to finally have them where I can watch them easily while traveling. I noticed a few rare complaints in the reviews of some of the Ghibli movies stating they they lacked Japanese audio but I assure you that the HD versions do have the option to switch to Japanese subtitles under the iTunes extras which is great for those who love both subbed & dubbed considering some popular anime movies are sold separately in each language. 😔 I shockingly only just recently saw this movie for the first time and it has to be one of my favorites. It’s very touching and goes up there with The Wind Rises, which I dearly hope gets added soon, as one of the more emotional Studio Ghibli moves in terms of the plot being somewhat centered around romance with it being a bit of slice of life story. I love how it connects to The Cat Returns and while I deeply enjoy fantasy set stories the realistic setting helps me feel even more connected. For instance while our genders differ I was very much like the lead character when I was her age and was unofficially voted as most likely to be seen with a book in hand by those at my school. 😂

I love each one of the Studio Ghibli movies I have seen, and each frame of each movie is a masterpiece in itself. Whisper of The Heart, however, is my all time favorite movie, and I feel like I could have fainted from excitement that I get to own it digitally.
