Description

A small-town nurse named Susette Kelo emerges as the reluctant leader of her working-class neighbors in their struggle to save their homes from political and corporate interests bent on seizing the land and handing it over to Pfizer Corporation. Susette's battle goes all the way to the US Supreme Court and the controversial 5-4 decision in Kelo vs. City of New London gave government officials the power to bulldoze a neighborhood for the benefit of a multibillion-dollar corporation. The decision outraged Americans across the political spectrum, and that passion fueled reforms that helped curb eminent domain abuse.

  • Important political philosophy here!

Fine movie! I think it did a superb job of showing the conflict between people's personal values (whether I agree with them or not) and a government motivated by altruism and collectivism. Like a glass thrown against the floor, the victims here were stepped on and crushed.

In an era where we as a nation are deeply divided, it's good have such an important issue as eminent domain (and its abuse) brought to light, where no matter your political leanings, we can all point and say, "That is wrong!!! The aftermath of which, of course, is "How did I let MY government get so out of hand, and what can I do to prevent this from happening in the future." Anyone who considers themself an American needs to watch it.In addition, the performances were spot-on, and the casting and cinematography were fantastic! Catherine Keener's take on a working class woman who has found her refuge is beautifully gritty and understated. Jeanne Tripplehorn does a painfully wonderful job as a political fixer plying her trade in a male dominated field. While we dislike her character, Ms. Tripplehorn's beautifully nuanced and multilayered performance allow you to see that her character's insecurities cause her to refuse to see any wrongdoing or take any responsibility. We live in a world of business barons with incredible resources, and while we have laws in place to buffer their influence, our political gate keepers are weak and require our oversight.

So proud of Susette Kelo’s courage and passion and grateful for the Institute of Justice’s support! Loved the way all came together for such an important stand against the big guy. I especially liked the role of John Kramer in this movie - educated me about the role and power of marketing in fighting the good fight! LOVED this movie!

one thing that makes a difference for me between a 4 star and a 5 star are the performances, and this movie gets the 5. The actors were passionate and made it worth the watch.

Riveting documentary with top actors grappling with an important issue-- one that is making such a positive impact on new legislation. God help us if we are ever in a situation vs the government where they take our property!

This film was fantastic, eye-opening and educational. Susette Kelo is an inspiration to always stand up for your beliefs. The acting was amazing and the technical aspects of the film were top-notch. I feel for all the homeowners who have ever or who will ever be subjected to the horrors that Ms. Kelo faced.

This was a great film with a stellar cast. I was unaware of eminant domain until watching this movie. Its devastating to see this still happening across the country. What an excellent way to bring awarness to such an important subject with an amazing story brought to life through film. It's refreshing to see a movie that actually matters.

Wow! Fantastic, eye-opening film portraying an epic legal battle between a gritty homeowner, big pharma, politicians, and the use of eminent domain. Keener shines as Susette Kelo and the supporting cast does an amazing job depicting the hard working attorneys and staff at the Institute for Justice and politicians who ultimately leveled a neighborhood for no reason!
