Description

Ray Bradbury's classic novel is infused with a decidedly 21st Century sensibility in this dazzling, high-tech thriller. In an American future where the media is an opiate, internet bots control routines, history is truncated or rewritten, and celebrity "firemen" engage in televised search-and-destroy missions to burn books and bring their owners to justice, one zealous fireman begins to question his long-held assumptions about his life's work. Michael B. Jordan stars as the fireman who has been groomed to replace his captain (Michael Shannon). After meeting a young informant (Sofia Boutella), the fireman makes a dangerous decision to assist a group of underground "Eels" in their plan to preserve the contents of thousands of classic books, arts and culture. Directed by Ramin Bahrani; written by Ramin Bahrani & Amir Naderi.

  • It Was Never Related to the Book!

I love the book that Bradbury had wrote because of how the story unfolds, but I have a bone to pick with HBO! (If I miss or if some information is wrong, it's because I'm doing this at 11:30 at night and I'm tired.) HEADS UP: Spoilers from the book and HBO adaptation. 1. Where is Mildred, the Mechanical Hound, Faber, and some of the other characters/things? The movie doesn't feature them. 2. What is Yuxie? Did it take place of the Mechanical Hound? 3. Why is Clarisse alive and not dead? Also is she supposed to be arrested? I think in the book, her and her family had some false alarms. 4. Why did Montag die? He is supposed to be alive and is heading to St. Louis with Granger and the rest of the hoboes. 5. I don't think Granger is related to Montag. He met him at the hobo camps. 6. I feel like the whole chase was pointless in the film because the Mechanical Hound was supposed to be there. 7. Why is "Omnis" a thing? Eels? It seriously could be better. Overall, SHAME ON YOU HBO for making a good book into a GARBAGE MOVIE! I won't be buying anything from you anymore! SCREW YOU!

I like Michael B. Jordan and Michael Shannon are both good so is the view of social media but the Omnis thing is pretty dumb.
  • Read the Classic Novel - Do Not Watch This HBO Remake

If you have already read the Bradbury classic, his only science fiction novel, you know the story. If you haven’t , avoid this HBO adaptation. It is a failure in my humble opinion too loosely based on his future-society where literary censorship is practiced. This production is a strange remake and the plot takes so many twists, and turns into a far cry from the original novel and Ray’s intent. Bradbury was a great writer and spent about two decades wrestling with production companies and negotiations to remake an already hauntingly beautiful 1966 François Truffaut filmed adaption .i wish that they had left it at that.

Good to watch and own if you are a 451 fanatic, however this modern version is no where near as fascinating as the original. Now, if iTunes could only offer the original Fahrenheit 451 for purchase again all would be right in the world! Even offering it as a bundle, something..
  • Awesome intellectual Suspense!

The movie kept me on the edge of my seat throughout nearly all of it! Gripping with “why” and “what if”. It’s a very good movie to make you think about our world and our path we are on as a society. Also raises many questions about governmental power and terrifying thoughts of what could happen if it got in sinister hands...

Interestingly, if you read what Ray Bradbury had to say about altering literature, and alterations being at least as bad as book burning, it will be difficult to imagine how this movie got made. I don't know what I would have thought of this film had it been given another title, but as I was expecting Farenheit 451, I was sorely disappointed. It really misses the mark of what Bradbury was telling us.
  • Not even close!

I have read the original book and viewed the original 1966 film. If you want to view a version of the book, I recommend the 1966 film. There was more depth, more story and more heart to the film compared the 2018 film. Where was Linda Montag? All that the Firemen did was abuse the citizenry and burn the books. And worse of all, the ending was different and less satisfying. The original film at least gave us some hope at the end as well as the book. No such hope hear!
  • Nice Try But Get Serious !

The music is great, the acting is "serious" and should be for this very dark drama, however, just because they banned books, did they kill daylight? And, Julie Christie is the real star of the original playing dual roles with such greatness Sofia isn't worth watching.
