Description

Hard times for the gang at the Monarch: a one-screen movie theater bringing the best in vintage and cult cinema to the masses, or more often, four nerds and a couple of kids who ought be in school. With a multiplex about to open just down the street, Gabby (Zakareth Ruben) decides it’s time to smell the coffee, sell up and cut out. But her brave team of dedicated concessionaires, led by uber-geek Scott (David Blue), refuses to give up. Surely there must be some way to keep the dream alive?

I really enjoyed this film. The story was funny and the relationships of the characters were meaningful. If you love movies then you will geek out to all of the reenactments of classics in the best way. There are even some nods to some of my favorite classic T.V. shows, Happy Days and Doctor Who which made me feel like I was a part of the gang. Overall it is an entertaining movie with great acting, direction, and production value!

I really enjoyed America Young’s take on young people fighting to keep their theater open. Her timing is particularly fresh and the content is sure to please hard core Stan Lee fans! It’s an homage to all things movies in this ever changing digital era. You just gotta love these characters. Young has done a masterful job getting great performances out of newbies and gets their comedic timing down well. Pull up a pile of popcorn, get yourself a big coke, and prepare yourself for a fun ride!
