Children of the Corn: Runaway

Should have ran away from watching this! This has nothing to do with the other children of the corn.. that was all so well done! Acting bad, horror bad.. really can’t believe I watched it all. Save time and skip this one!

I try to be as lenient as possible when I write reviews because I’m not an actor/director/writer/producer/paid movie critic/you get the picture, and I know how serious the final product is for those who are. That being said, I went into this open-minded, frankly, wanting to like it. And lastly, this is just my amateur, purely subjective opinion, so you can take it or leave it, but as sometime who watches horror movies on an almost nightly basis, I feel I can speak with some level of authority when I say that I did not find this enjoyable. I’m a huge fan of the original Children of the Corn. And this trailer looked somewhat decent. But most of this movie is the relationship between mother and son and the struggles the face living on the road. It feels like you’re waiting forever for something to actually happen. The little girl in the yellow dress was creepy but I was so sick of how many times they made her skip from place to place. Like I promise, we get it, she’s the cute, sweet, innocent-looking psychopath. She doesn’t have to literally skip everywhere she goes for us to get that message. The plot really dragged on for me without much excitement. The end had a decent twist but still felt anti-climactic. There were almost no murder/death scenes except in flashbacks and hallucinations and I’m sorry, it’s a horror movie, it’s what we all came for. When violence did occur, they opted to use very digital-looking blood that sort of slo-mo flew in the air, which for me made the scenes feel less authentic. Unfortunately, I fell asleep watching this the first time and had to force myself to finish it the next day. There were no reviews for this when I rented it and I honestly wish there had been because if others felt the way I did after watching this, I’m pretty confident I wouldn’t have rented it. I hate to say it but I would 100% avoid this one. If you’re looking for the most disturbing movie of your life, watch, The Poughkeepsie Tapes. You can find links for it via Google and they finally released it to dvd. Still gives me the creeps.
