Description

In this gothic horror tale, a family curse confines orphaned twins Rachel (Charlotte Vega) and Edwards (Bill Milner) to their home as punishment for their ancestors’ sins. Bound to the rules of a haunting childhood lullaby, the twins must never let any outsiders inside the house, must be in their rooms by the chime of midnight, and must never be separated from one another. Breaking any of these three rules will incur the wrath of a sinister presence that inhabits the house after midnight. While Edward is committed to this ill-fated life, he’s becoming more unhinged due to the fact that Rachel is not. Smitten by a local soldier (Eugene Simon), Rachel grows skeptical and begins to rebel, desperate to escape the oppression and misery of their captivity.

  • AWFUL

This movie is so poorly developed in terms of story telling. The dialogue is ridiculous, the engagement of the characters feels forced and unnatural. The "horror" is a rip off of Crimson Peak like another reviewer stated. And who builds their house- be it over a mine or a pond or anything so stupid that there is a trap door that leads to sludge or whatever in the entry? The story is so unremarkable and the farthest thing from scary. I am so dissapointed I watched it.

It's a haunting movie. It draws the viewer in, and mixes fear and suspense. It's not the typical horror film that just looks for shock and awe. The movie is well made, and the acting is superb.

Fantasticly atmospheric. Not your traditional horror film, this is much more gothic in it's look and feel than your average ghost story. Great peformances, and the location is almost a character unto itself.

One of the best of the gothics of the past few years (including The Housemaid and The Witch, which is its own category of gothic), The Lodgers is both beautiful visually and superbly acted, wonderful visual ideas in it, remarkable setting with a story of a doomed aristocratic family. The three leads, and even the less "lead" roles, are performed to perfection by a mostly young cast, including the perfect gothic heroine, Charlotte Vega. With a small but memorable cast, this story spins a web of siblings imprisoned in a gated crumbling mansion, recluses by fear and tradition. Worth watching, and well-within the lineage of supernatural gothic movies beginning the The Innocents (1961), The Others, The Witch, the Stephen Volk-scripted The Awakening, and The Housemaid (from Vietnam, now available for rental) – right to the door of this enthralling, creepy, disturbing and beautiful gothic fairy tale of a family curse and the haunting of the terrifying past. More gothic supernatural movies, please!

This story is twisted, sinister and everything in between. It stays with you and I can’t stop thinking about it. It’s one of those films that you get the scares because of its creepiness. 🙇🏻‍♂️you feel for the gal! Probably going to my DVD collection when it comes out.

Fell deeply entranced with this gothic tale / ending was a touch vague for my tastes, but a good solid ride

Crimson Peak + A Cure For Wellness + The Ring (lol) = The Lodgers With poor ending! And Rotten Tomatoes didn’t expect YOU to rate this crap! I won’t say don’t watch/but/tent but if you willing to do read my comment and think twice :) (I’m 100% sure you will regret) Good luck!

The Lodgers kept me in a constant state of tension that built into a excellent crescendo. The architecture and lighting gave me the creeps the whole way through. The moview was well cast. I recommend it!
