Description

In 1939 Poland, Antonina Zabinska (two-time Academy Award® nominee Jessica Chastain) and her husband successfully run the Warsaw Zoo and raise their family in an idyllic existence. Their world is overturned, however, when the country is invaded by the Nazis and they are forced to report to the Reich's newly appointed zoologist (Daniel Brühl). To fight back on their own terms, the Zabinskis risk everything by covertly working with the Resistance and using the zoo's hidden tunnels and cages to save families from Nazi brutality.

Good movie, love that it is based on a true story of a courageous woman but it is way too long and drawn out. Could have been shorter and movie would have been better. Touching story, worth watching on a rainy nothing to do for hours kind of day.

  • More-heartfelt-than-graphic Holocaust film is ideal for wide viewing audience

Jessica Chastain's portrayal conveys a hopeful message during a dark period in human history. Also, fantastic set design/cinematography take the viewer to settings such as the Warsaw ghetto. Long after viewing time, this film resonates as a shining example of Holocaust education which is ideal for a wide age range.

There is in the direction of this film and in Jessica Chastains acting something true , and heartfelt that carries it along sometimes a bit slowly , but I found the editing and the scenes around the ghetto extremely real and uposed. I love animals so other than the images of those that were hurt , enjoyed this aspect very much. It is not another holocaust movie, it is touching and very vivid in its direction. Bravo !

The movie shows the truth of the Polish nation. Poles are great heroes of the WWII.

Beware to animal lovers. I couldn't finish watching this movie. Seeing animals shot and bleeding fake or not. The amount of suffering in this movie was just too depressing. I know things like this happen and even worse but to watch for entertainment wasn't for me. I just wanted to warn others before they spent $5.99 to rent. I also think children absolutely shouldn't watch this movie. My opinion doesn't take away from the movie itself. I could be great for others I just didn't like it.
