In The Last Word, Shirley MacLaine is Harriet Lauler, a once successful businesswoman in tight control of every aspect of her life. As she reflects upon her accomplishments, she's suddenly inspired to engage a young local writer, Anne Sherman (Amanda Seyfried), to pen her life's story. When the initial result doesnโ€™t meet Harriet's high expectations, she sets out to reshape the way she is remembered, with Anne dragged along as an unwilling accomplice. As the journey unfolds, the two women develop a unique bond which alters not only Harrietโ€™s legacy, but also Anne's future.

Nonsensical dialogue, poorly written script, Shirley MacLaine deserves better.

This movie simply put is unbelievable. You know those movies where you watch the trailer and it kind of stands out to you, and you think hm looks okay I'll see it when it gets to the cheap theater and forget all about it? That was this movie to a T for me. I never thought that a movie that I couldn't even remember the name of (until I stumbled upon it in redbox) would be so life shaking. I am no longer afraid to live the life I was meant to live, this movie is the push I needed to final live to my full potential! Thank you for making this movie into a reality, you are a blessing and a half!

It was tongue and cheek with trite sprinkled in, but it was funny and she totally pulled it off. I would watch it again!

Such an enjoyable movie. Totally relatable in its plot & only the great Shirley MacLaine could play this role. Everything works in this movie. Recommend it for everyone because, let's face it, none of us are going to live forever. Well done, Shirley & supporting cast ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

This not a movie for vapid entertainment. It is a testimonial of a life lived on one's own terms. And about the price paid for freedom to be who you are. It is full of irony, witticisms and great performances. It may not be critically acclaimed - but who needs critics?

First of all ,i grew uo old school where we had 4 channels and it was an awesome sunday to sit and watch a movie each week. I don't think shirley has ever performed where it did not touch me in some manner, no matter the genre. Amanda Seyfried was great as well in her role. Hollywood has lost it's way over the years and movies are no longer what they were, so the treat is always nice when you have a movie with an eccentric lady who has dazzled the hearts of many. Amanda had the best message yet in this one about how a person can really be remembered for what they are and how it does not take long to feel that mark on our hearts. Amanda has been one of my favorites as she is not afraid to go out there and work with many actors and actresses who have been around for years. I admire that and i know it is a true blessing for her as well,it shows!!! What movies or actors of today will really be able to mark a spot when you talk about their work 30-40 years later is nill to none in my book. I have a hard time trying to utter the same sex gore ,genre,no talent f bomb movies of today, they have lost their way. Hollywood needs to get there heads out of there butts and get humble and if anything learn off of this movie, pride has always been to ripe and growth is an understatement.
  • Inspiring relaxing comedy, a perfect mix

In general I loved this movie. I had been looking for a movie like this for a while, a movie that had a little bit of everything. It made me laugh, cry, and feel inspired. Harriet, played by Shirley MacLaine, is one of the most amazing characters I have ever seen. A woman filled with determination and character, it made me wish she was real. Harriet, Anne and Brenda created the perfect mixture, giving the movie life and keeping your eyes locked on the screen. The movie moved smoothly but fast, it was never too much nor too little. It was brilliant. Very entertaining, very funny and very inspiring. I was surprised when I saw the critics reviews, The Last Word deserves much better ratings than the ones giving. I really recommend this movie, donโ€™t think about it twice, just press rent.
