Description

Legendary filmmaking icon, Roger Corman, is back with his most outrageous film yet in this sensational, action-packed, and darkly humorous reboot of the original Death Race 2000! It’s the year 2050 and America is controlled by an all-powerful corporate government ruled by The Chairman (Malcolm McDowell). The masses have been brainwashed with violent virtual-reality entertainment. The event of the year is the Death Race, in which a motley crew of violent drivers compete in a cross-country road race, scoring points for shamelessly running people over and driving each other off the road. The reigning champion and fan favorite, Frankenstein (Manu Bennett), who’s half-man, half-machine, wants to take the crown, but his rebel spy co-pilot threatens his legacy.

I'm a vey big fan of Roger Corman's classics. And 2050 hardens back to the best of them. If you've seen Death Race 2000 you will see a lot of it in this movie. However, humor hits harder and more frequently, the violence is even more over the top, and the end result is a film that is at once worse and better than the original could ever be.

This movie is fun to watch. It does have a little raunchy stuff in it but overall it is a great movie that I think most people can like.

I'm a huge fan of what Roger Corman has done for film over the past 50+ years. If you aren't familiar, Google him. Amazing. This film, while not the spit and polish we often come to expect from Hollywood, is a welcome return to the absurd and over-the-top campy action with political overtones that I miss from classic '70s exploitation films. With a cast including Manu Bennett (Arrow, The Hobbit, Spartacus) and Malcolm McDowell (if you need to ask, pity) it's a fun romp. Worth checking out.
