Description

Seven miles from war, 85,000 Syrians struggle to restart their lives inside Jordan’s Za’atari refugee camp. For the first time, two filmmakers fully embed themselves in a camp, providing an intimate look at the world’s most dire humanitarian crisis. From meeting Ghoussoon, a nurse who built a business to provide for three children, to the street smart, 10-year-old Raouf, whose trauma hides just beneath his ever present smile, Zach and Chris uncover inspiring stories of individuals rallying, against all odds, to rebuild their lives and those of their neighbors.

This film has been incredibly moving and has motivated me to want help in any possible way. Chris and Zach have helped put a face to the Syrian Refugee Crisis that, since it started, had not truly be given one by the news outlets. Although not being able to truly live as refugees on the camp, they did not give up and were still able to captivate stories of those within giving the viewers the essence of the refugees, their never ending hope. This is must-watch with the family and for those interested in humanitarian help their first step towards it.
  • Our common humanity

While world news continues to report on the atrocities of war in Syria, this important documentary film looks at the political crisis through a different lens that touches on our common humanity. We are introduced to life in Zaatari refugee camp, Jordan, and hear the personal stories of 5 Syrian refugees. We learn about the circumstances that compel people to flee their homeland; how hard it is for refugees to start a new life in difficult conditions; the dignity and strength that they strive for in their new lives; and the hopes and fears that they have for their future and their children's future. Salam Neighbor is a film that helps us understand that in a country where political turmoil and destruction are the order of the day, the people fleeing this conflict are merely looking for peace, friendship and a life worth living.

After watching Living on a Dollar, we expected another great documentary & were not disappointed. The personal stories were heartbreaking & inspiring. All Americans should watch this. What we see on the media & online doesn't begin to tell the story. Thank you for caring & for all of your work.
  • Disgusting

By making themselves the main characters, these tow filmmakers illustrated two things: that they have a huge amount to learn, and that what should have been a compelling story can be (and in this case was) nearly completely ruined by the shameless featuring of the filmmakers as the story, rather than THE STORY being documented for what it was.

What an amazing film. Theses filmmakers have a gift for bringing the viewer into the world they are filming and inspiring action. Literally wanted to get up mid movie and make the world a better place, but I didn’t because the movie was so good. I did after though, don’t worry guys.

Seeing Salam Neighbor come together was an amazing journey. I learned a lot and gained a huge appreciation for the arts. Chris Temple and the whole team deserve so much credit for bringing the issue of refugees to light. The entire team has given their all to capture a reality of human nature that is beyond the headlines and labels. The film shows emotions like kindness, understanding, love, strength, and most importantly hope. That hope is in a future where we can all treat each other as neighbors and not strangers. The refugee issue is not a short-term problem contained in one area, it is a long-term global issue that needs support.

Chris, Zach, and the team once again (check out Living on One Dollar) shine a critical and unique light on one of the great crises and opportunities of our time. You feel like you’re in the camp with them, meeting the actual people who are oftentimes ignored by media coverage of the Syrian Refugee Crisis. This film isn’t just about refugees, Syrians, or the region, it’s a film about the human condition.
