Description

From director Joel Schumacher ("Phone Booth," "A Time to Kill") comes this big-screen adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's smash-hit stage musical! The Phantom, a disfigured musical genius, haunts the catacombs beneath the Paris Opera, waging a reign of terror over its occupants. He takes an interest in a young singer and, through tutelage and terror, helps her rise to stardom, only to see her fall in love with a handsome young man. The Phantom vows revenge and kidnaps her to be his eternal bride, but ultimately is transformed by the compassion of the young woman, and the love she feels for her young man, making the ultimate sacrifice in order that she may live and be happy. Starring Gerard Butler ("300," "Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life"), Emmy Rossum ("The Day After Tomorrow," "Mystic River"), Oscar-nominee Miranda Richardson ("The Hours," "Sleepy Hollow"), Emmy and Golden Globe-nominee Patrick Wilson ("Hard Candy," TV's "Angels in America"), Simon Callow ("Shakespeare in Love") and Ciarán Hinds ("Road to Perdition," "The Sum of All Fears"). Nominated for three Academy Awards!

The music and the storyline are perfect. And they did not make it too different from the actual musical which I love. So if your pondering about renting this move I would recommend renting it! It is not a waste of your money!

I think that both the stage show and the movie are pretty good. Get both. Also get Lindsey Stirling’s violin medley of Phantom. It is stunning.

  • Three different kinds of people writing reviews...

The way I see it, there are three people who are writing these reviews: people who have seen the broadway musical and seen the movie and have loved both, people who have only seen the movie and loved it, and people who have seen both the Broadway production and the movie and have hated the movie because they are comparing the movie to the broadway show. But the movie is supposed to be different than the live show. Who cares if Emmy and Gerard aren’t as good as the live performers? They haven’t had the same training/experience as the live performers, so what do you want from them? This movie is an adaptation of the show, it isn’t supposed to be exactly like the live production. That’s what makes this movie so unique. But, to each their own. Personally, this movie is amazing for me. It makes me cry every time I watch it. Just do me a favor and watch it to make your own impression of it instead of taking other people’s word for it. See what you think.

  • Worst attempt at singing EVER

Was a DISGRACE to the longest running musical of all time. The “singing” was worse than some High School productions. And was as bad, as when that AWEFUL guy from KISS was allowed to sing the role of the Phantom in Toronto.

Take one of the most famous plays of all time and make it better. Scenes unable to be done in the play brought so much more to life. Gerard Butler and Emmy Rossum gave haunting unforgettable performances. One of my favorite movies ever.
