Description

A deeply personal portrait of 20th Century American childhood, Steven Spielberg's The Fabelmans is a coming-of-age story about a young man's discovery of a shattering family secret and an exploration of the power of movies to help us see the truth about each other and ourselves. Inspired by Spielberg's own childhood, The Fabelmans is written by Spielberg and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tony Kushner (Angels in America, Caroline, or Change), who has earned Oscar nominations for his screenplays for Spielberg's Lincoln and Munich. The film is produced by three-time Oscar® nominee Kristie Macosko Krieger (West Side Story, The Post), Spielberg and Kushner.

A great film that won 2 Golden Globes.
  • Don’t understand all the hype

I found this movie unwatchable. The writing felt cliche and cringy. Michelle Williams is undeniably a great actor but was totally miscast and unbelievable in this role. I’m genuinely confused by the accolades and consider myself a cinefile.
  • A pointless musing.

I like intelligent films and films with a purpose. But that is not Awhat we fine here. It is an overly long, boring, pointless story that is more of an aimless musing than a movie.
  • Depressing and…weird

Not at all magical like I thought it would be. It just ended up being depressing and…weird. Awkward scenes, messy plot…had potential but ultimately focused on the drama instead of what could have been the magic of filmmaking. Big waste of time.

Sorry, but this is a boring, silly and above all a very vain film that only serves to elevate Steven Spielberg to a myth for the rest of the world. Apart from Spielberg and his entourage, the film will hardly have entertained anyone.
  • PURE DRECK.

I wish I hadn't wasted my time watching this schmaltz. Every scene drips with "YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO THINK THIS IS CUTE BECAUSE IT'S SPIELBERG" - everyone - especially DP Janusz Kaminski, and, Michelle Williams phones this in. Cinematography was boring, Michelle's performance simply made no sense (does she belong in a psych ward in the middle of this Norman Rochwell painting or is this trying to be cute?). Paul Dano could have been replaced by a stuffed bear for the same compelling performance. Seth Rogan is distractingly obnoxious as usual as the best friend having an affair with the wife (roll eyes). The kids all squeal on cue hoping to have their Drew Barrymore moment. Then you have to suffer through a cameo by Judd Hirsch in a tank top. Just pure garbage that wouldn't have gotten any award nom's if Spielberg's name wasn't on it. Do not waste your time - I wish I hadn't.
