Description

In Ruben Östlund’s wickedly funny Palme d’Or winner, social hierarchy is turned upside down, revealing the tawdry relationship between power and beauty. Celebrity model couple, Carl and Yaya, are invited on a luxury cruise for the uber-rich, helmed by an unhinged boat captain. What first appeared instagrammable ends catastrophically, leaving the survivors stranded on a desert island.

Possibly the dumbest most detached from reality movie I ever watched

Neon sort of mismarketed the movie so people didn’t realize how left field it was gonna be. This movie rocks you just have to have an open mind

Shows you that not all taste is good taste. Was a fantastic movie; anyone who missed the point is as dumb as they are ugly.
  • Gawd dang that was aweful

A tedious and pretentious slog through the totally untrodden analytical ground of socioeconomic dynamics. At least Snow Piercer, which also serves up some it’s own superficial social and economic commentary, had the sense to be a fun movie at the end of the day with the action and unique setting that it brought. Seriously do literally anything else your money that buying or renting this “film”.

Not a comedy, not a tragedy, mostly a farse. I plot that was so lame one wonders who actually wrote it (artificial intelligence)? Disgusting scenes of people vomiting, or sewage spewing out of toilets. Poor acting all around, short of the captain, but he was always drunk anyhow. It looks like the production ran out of money, so the ending is abrupt and absurd. I would recommend you save your money and watch something else instead.

We couldn’t finish it. This film would work better as a mental training torture exercise in the military. Reading the hilarious reviews was far more entertaining.

I give it a second star for the funny seasick scenes and the moderately clever juxtaposition of power dynamics once on the island. However the first half of the film is a death march / slog to get through, and whatever redeeming qualities the second half of the movie may have are nullified by the stupid ending of the film. Ironically the film itself winds up being an unintentional statement regarding artsy faux-intellectual directors that parallels the film’s theme. I’m not even that mad about the $6- I paid for the rental; but I am sore over the 2 1/2 hours of our lives my wife and I can never get back. I will make it a point to avoid any film involving Director / Screenwriter Ruben Ostlund or, for that matter any other film that similarly “wins” the Palme d’Or award in the future.
