Description

Some have called it the 'gayest horror movie ever made!' But for Mark Patton, the star of A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge, it was anything but a dream come true. Detailing the homophobia and Aids-phobia of 1985 as a closeted actor in Hollywood, Mark retraces his obstacles, missteps, and detractors on the pathway to stardom. 30 years after its initial release, Patton is hitting the road to set the record straight about the controversial sequel and the experience that halted his career before it even begin. Confronting the cast and crew for the first time, Mark attempts to make peace with his past as well as embrace his legacy as cinema's first male scream queen.

It’s 2 hours of Mark Patton blaming everyone he possibly can for making a “Gay Nightmare” He says at one point I woke up in the middle of shooting this film and realized he was playing a gay role. Come on man, you must have read the script, if it wasn’t obvious to you then it should have been obvious at the table read. Take responsibility for yourself and stop trying to pass the blame off to others. That was my take away from the documentary.

This documentary not only takes a look at Mark Patton’s life before and after A Nightmare On Elm Street 2, it gives a world of insight regarding horror films of the 80’s and the impact that had, not only with film, but queer culture as well. Included with the narrative on Mark’s life, the AIDS crisis and the homophobia that followed, is richly told from a historical stand point and from the ones who where there. All of this information weaves an eye opening account of what Mark endured and ultimately came to terms and acceptance with. If you’re deciding whether to purchase this, think no more. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to a well rounded, informative documentary!

I was privilege enough to attend a screening of this in Ohio with some friends. I got to meet Mark Patton before and after the screening . I also got to meet the wonderful filmmakers behind this truly moving documentary, Roman and Tyler! Scream Queen! My Nightmare on Elm street is a beautiful love letter and tribute to actor Mark Patton, the movie, and the LGBT 🏳️‍🌈 community! It’s a must see! A documentary for everyone.
