Description

A new grown-up comedy-drama from Academy Award®-nominated director Jason Reitman (“Up in the Air”) and Academy Award®-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody (“Juno”). Marlo (Academy Award® winner Charlize Theron), a mother of three including a newborn, is gifted a night nanny by her brother (Mark Duplass). Hesitant to the extravagance at first, Marlo comes to form a unique bond with the thoughtful, surprising, and sometimes challenging young nanny named Tully (Mackenzie Davis).

  • Started strong, BUT…

This movie started as a very accurate and sweet portrayal of the many challenges that most new moms face. Their challenges are physical, mental, and emotional. I appreciate this poignant reminder. BUT… A little more than halfway through all of that goodness, this movie loses its focus. Someone felt a need to slide in an awkward sexual fantasy that felt forced and misplaced. Next, this devoted mother who cares for her family like a true hero one minute, suddenly decides to leave her family and go on a drinking binge which causes a horrific auto accident. I’m honestly not sure how the first part of the movie connects to the second and you likely won’t get it either. There are much better movies out there. Skip this one.

This is a compelling drama with real-life comedic moments. It is not a comedy as labelled.

I liked this movie but there was nothing humorous about it. The plot twist was unpredictable such that I want to go back and watch it over again knowing what I know now. Slow at times, but overall pretty good.

Very well-done & enjoyable. Sweet, funny, tender, real. Warmth, with a lot of truth & heart. Bravo Charlize Theron. Bravo Diablo Cody, the writer of this wonderful movie. Excellent directing by Jason Reitman. Very good cast of supporting actresses & actors. Overall, a great slice-of-life movie 👍👍👍💜
